Gorax

[Galactic Menace, History]

Gorax is a mad scientist who enjoys a privileged mind, leaning towards Mech technology, developing his own Mech model, Gorak class (not to confuse Gorax the scientist with Gorak, his Mech creation) and Genetics, which has led him to intensive genetic research and experimentation, creating new species such as Ambershard Stalkers or galactic-wide DNA modifications to almost all the pilots.
As great is his ambition as his capabilities, for during his numerous attempts to gain control of an important part of the galaxy and combine all the collective power of the mankind under his command. In the pursuit of his goals, he has directly and indirectly attacked many of the great powers, being able to plunge a portion of the galaxy into the chaos for a considerable time and if not for the prompt intervention of the powerful mercenary clans, is said he could have successfully crowned his plans.

It has been learned that his master plan intends to create genetically engineered super soldiers, completely subjected to his will by modifying their mental patterns, inducing a deep conditioning for the consecration of the Gorax's plans of total domination and transformation of the human race into a new super race. The dawn of a new race to rule the galaxy with Gorax as his Supreme Overlord.
His first attempt to gain control over the whole galaxy was in 3280, as the first time his Mech creation, the dreadful Gorak, that was firstly spotted during the insane raid against his ravenous forces.

Both the shogunate and the Illyrian hegemony have since then tried at all costs to find the Gorax laboratories, even offering huge rewards for any information about them.

His first attempt was frustrated, but he escaped safely, taking refuge in his secret laboratories to prepare his next assault.

It is known that in the whiletime, he offered his services to the League of Ages, with which Dr. Drake would also collaborate. It is highly probable that given the similar nature of both, both Dr. Drake and Dr. Gorax find some collaboration of some kind in the genetic field, although this is not demonstrated yet and belongs to the field of speculation.

The Gorax Virus

From 3306 to 3311 Gorax made his stronger attempt in his agenda of galactic domination, releasing a massive DNA modification plan that has been seen by the scientist community as a plague for what a vaccine was developed and spreads all along the inhabited settlements of the known galaxy. Although not all the effects were countered, and maybe the vaccine was absolutely useless.

Gorax designed a viral weapon, called as the "Gorax Virus" (or G-virus) that was transmitted through synthetic manipulated bioptics. A way to better spread the infected bioptics was to incorporate in their composition a extreme generative factor that seemed to make it grown in an insane rate, which reproduced generating massive quantities and which at first seemed a perfect functionality. Actually these bioptics concealed a malicious code that induced those humans connected to any AI using the synthetic Gorax manipulated bioptics with an extreme paranoia, cognitive disorientation and a significant increase in violent responses. In a counterpart, the affected specimens got a singnificative enhancement of their reflexes, strength and fortitude.

Chaos in the Shogunate

Following his malicious plan, Gorax managed to infect a large number of High Shogunate officers, as well as the Prince of Iron, who, after the effects of the G-virus, rose in rebellion against the Shogun-Emperor Meiji, initiating the first civil war in the Shogunate in 3306.

Meanwhile, the mercenary clans, hired to help control the situation and end the rebellion, were inadvertently helping to spread the G-virus throughout the sector of the shogunate and other sectors further afield.

When in 3310 it was finally discovered that bioptics were responsible for the spread of G-virus, the scientific community started a race against the clock for the development of a vaccine capable of counteracting the alienating effects of the G-virus.

Apparently, the vaccine was successful, and after rejecting an invasion force in the service of Gorax, the mercenary clans obtained a brief period of peace, although the Shogunate paid for the civil war, which resulted in significant human losses, material and secession Of an important area known as Sengakuji Reaches and which was led by the Prince of Flowers, who with the support of a large number of mercenary clans succeeded in enhancing their survival and independence from the shogunate.

An attempt to Seize the Galaxy

In 3211, after a short period of peace, Gorax returned with renewed strength, revealing a new biological weapon: Ambershard Stalkers, powerful creatures resembling giant scorpions, capable of releasing beams of energy and which began to ravage glass farms and abduct Without distinction to citizens and pilots.

Apparently, Gorax employed the captives to continue his experiments, refining his G-virus in the wild pursuit of subjecting the humanity and transforming it according to his designs.

While Gorax outlined his plan to unleash a full-scale invasion of the galaxy, spreading chaos and destruction with his virus G raging across the galaxy and the stalkers swarms punishing numerous settlements and endangering crystal production, all powers combined forces in the fight against the villain.

By a stroke of fortune, the location of their secret laboratory was revealed and the mercenary clans were launched like a pack on the redoubt of Gorax, in a brutal combat in which they were about to downsize to Gorax. Unfortunately, despite the labs got destroyed, the own Gorax managed to escape in extremis, thanks to the intervention of his creatures, the stalker.

At present, the whereabouts of Gorax is unknown, although there is no doubt that humanity will again suffer his megalomaniac plans.

Glacion

[Astronomy, Planetology]

Glacion 4j-32, is the fourth of ten icy planets in the Nuadan System. A frigid waste world inhabited by an isolationist religious community of Shinto hermit-engineers. The only populated location in the planet is their hermit colony in the Monastery of Kyobushan.
Location: In the nether fringe of the Shogunate and the Illyrian Hegemony, currently under the Shogunate tacit protection, but with null interest.

Etymology

Glacion is the accusative of Glacio, that in Classic Old Terran Latin means "Ice", name received from the first settlers belonging to an Illyrian mission, before being definitively occupied by a Shinto Monastic Order from the Shogunate.

As the name implies, the planet is permanently covered by eternal snows and glaciers.

Other denominations: Glacion, Glacius, Aisukurimu.

Polar Radius:  9,110.05 Km.

Equatorial Radius:  10,068.15 Km.

Circumference (equatorial): 63,259.99 Km.

Density: 5.20 gr./cm3.

Mass: 5,1835×1000 kg

Average surface temperature: Below -50º Celsius (-58º F)

Orbital Radius: 1.8601 ua

Orbital Period (in standard years): 682.7 standard days / 1.87 standard years.

Rotation Period: 61.6 standard hours (2.56 standard days)

Habitability: Low living conditions. The ecosystems predominate in the equatorial area.

Natural Satellites: 3 minor moons.

Atmosphere (composition): Standard, with high ionization.

Other Features: Frigid planet of everlasting ice glaciers.

Government: Shinto monastic order, administratively dependent on the Shogunate.

Capital: Hermit Colony of Kyobushan. (the unique settlement)

Description

The surface indistinctly covers masses of water and land in a never ending mantle of snow. The view has an indescribable and resplendent beauty, inviting to the silent introspection.

The predominant Arctic climate on almost all the surface during the 682 days of the year, is only appeased in the equatorial belt, in which the cold is less extreme, allowing a greater presence of animal and vegetate life.
Most of the planet has a dangerous terrain, hidden under the fragile crunchy ice fields or camouflaged under apparent plains of soft snow that hide dangerous holes to marine wells or to entrails of ice and toothed stone in the undergrounds of Glacion.

There are very large glass caves with forms of unspeakable beauty, mostly unexplored and harboring some dangerous species rarely seen on the surface.

History

Originally, Glacion housed a mining colony in search of the prized niobium. When all the prospections revealed that the planet lacked mineral resources of interest, they abandoned the planet, leaving behind a small community of hermitage monks belonging to the Shinto cult.

The hermits, who had found refuge with the Illyrian miners after a pirate attack on their transport during a pilgrimage, turned the facilities into a Shinto monastery.

Over the time, the monastery of Kyobushan in Glacion became a paradigm of ascetic life and the perfect place to find inspiration, which attracted a second group of shogunate monk-engineers, who were well received by the founding monastic community.

The hermit engineers of Glacion came to achieve renown in the Shogunate, despite their strict isolation, so much that by the year 3100 the Meiji Shogunate Emperor Kiyomizu commissioned the hermitages to design a new Mech that could counter the burning might of the Illyrian Cindron, the monks brought to life the Nifthel Class.

As a reward, the Emperor promulgated an Imperial Decree granting total usufruct and government rights on the planet to the Shinto Monastery, however, given the zero interest that the planet aroused, whether from an economic or military point of view, some considered the imperial gift as a mere gesture of recognition, but also a strategic maneuver that tacit established the adoption of the Glacion's sector of Nuadan, under the protective mantle of the Shogunate.

Industry

There is no industrial or commercial activity. The monastery is dedicated exclusively to meditation and the creation of new designs, which are later built by Alpha Corp in their Manufacturer Facilities in the Shogunate.

Calendar

[History, Calendar]

The Galactic or Standard calendar is an adaptation of the old Sol Imperial calendar, which in turn was formerly called the Gregorian calendar. Originally from Old Terra, which from the year 1582 began to replace the Julian calendar (instituted by the Roman emperor Julius Caesar in 46 BC).

This calendar is based on the earth cycle and its translation around its star in the Sol system, establishing twelve divisions or months to the solar year of 365,242189 days, or what is the same, 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 45.16 seconds.

After the discovery of the Gateway jumps and the quick expansion of humanity across the galaxy, the Solar calendar was maintained by the Old Terra empire and its colonies. When Old Terra lost its influence on the colonies and these became independent, with the formation of new great powers in the galaxy, continued to maintain the validity of the solar calendar in order to facilitate a common reference in the confines of the great powers, for administrative and commercial purposes.

Although the Illyrian Hegemony, the Shogunate and the Society of Cogwerk Planets came to have their own calendars, the standardization of the Galactic calendar and its use for all the Great and Minor Powers finally prevailed.

Yoram War

[War, History]

Once it was known that the Xenomorphs of the Yoram were immersed in their Awakening process, and given the prospect that the few of them that were already awake were already an immense threat to the security of the sector and to the human species itself , The Illyrian Hegemony tried to purge the planet in 3325 with disastrous results. Half of the Illyrian army fell under the mental control of the Yoram and were forced to fight the other half.

The mercenary clans were contacted to intervene and rescue a significant part of the expeditionary force of Illyrian Hegemony, but at a high price.

In 3326, the Illyrian Hegemony launched a new and larger army with the aim of taking over and purging Vupa 6 to exterminate the Yoram, since it had become clear that they constituted a terrible danger for the whole galaxy, even worse than the last Forerunner.

The main objectives of the Second Stage of the Vupa Campaign in 3326 were:

1. Interrupting the terraform process by interrupting the pools generating purple haze.
2. Destroy any Yoram force in sight.

The main problem faced by the mercenaries and Illyrians was the mass army that the Yoram obtained from the first Illyrian attack. The Yoram had acquired a large amount of Mechs captured from the first campaign and continued to operate them through mind-controlled human pilots.

Another problem was the astonishing and deadly ability of the Yoram. The rare times when a true Yoram was found in the battle behind a Mech's controls, they proved to destroy 20 to 30 times their tonnage before avoiding their own destruction or covering themselves behind their controlled human puppets.

During the second campaign, only a few of the most outstanding pilots had the opportunity to fight on equal terms with the Yoram. The most notable being the case of legendary pilot David van Fleet, who sacrificed himself to allow the withdrawal of a contingent of Illyrian and mercenaries. Commander van Fleet faced a Notos piloted by a Yoram in singular combat with his modified Bishop, having engaged in a melee with the enemy whose cabin he had destroyed by punching it with his Bishop's fists after having apparently run out of ammunition.

Colony Drop

[Mech Warfare & Mercenary Glossary]

Especially aggressive tactical attack maneuver in which (figuratively) an orbital colony is collided against a target on the planetary surface.

This term was coined by the prestigious and long time unbeaten clan Zeon, and represented one of their favorite maneuvers and trademark.

Along the time, Zeon developed numerous tactical variables, which nevertheless always retained the characteristics of brutality and celerity, identifying features of an authentic colony drop.

Some types of Colony Drop could include:
  1. Deploy in the combat zone by landing their Mechs in drop pods from orbital aircraft.
  2. A sudden, quick and brutal confrontation in which they attacked aggressively with everything they had at hand.

Only the elite clans of the first divisions like Juggernaut or Leviathan were able to neutralize a colony drop.

The Xeon clan, counterpart of Zeon, in the alternative dimension of Unification, developed an analogous but infinitely more cruel tactic, in which a Mech of Skriag class was projected against the star of the place of combat, provoking its entrance in Nova and The consequent destruction of all those who had not evacuated the place in time. This maneuver caused the destruction of several dozen worlds in their dimension.
