DinoMechs

[Mech Technology]

This Mech Subcategory includes those units originally designed by the Forerunner or by Droch'ah himself, to feed his dreadful armies employed in the attempt to subjugate and destroy the mankind and bring a rebirth of the Forerunner Race.

Apart from being the product of the Forerunner high science, their most important common denominator is the way they have all been built, mimicking some of the dinosaurs of the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, eras that took place in the cradle of humanity of Old Terra before the appearance of the human being.

These Mech classes were found on the reefs of Yomi, a rough planet apparently an important outpost of Forerunner scientists in the distant past and which became the Droch'ah's Head Quarter.

  REGIS

The personal Mech of Droch'ah. Although other Regis were given to his League of Ages henchmen, the personal Regis of Droch'ah has been never equaled and is counted among the most powerful Mechs ever built in the Galaxy.

Although the Regis produced by AlphaCorp do not have the potential of Droch'ah's personal Mech, they continue to be impressive machines with a fearsome destructive potential in the hands of the right pilot.

Aspis

[Mech Technology]

Soon after the discovery of the Ignis in the Yomi wastelands, numerous expeditions of military, adventurers, pirates and scientists from all over the galaxy began to appear to conscientiously track the dangerous planet, increasing in step the number of wrecks, turned into mute epitaphs of the many unfortunates who never returned from the risky exploration.

Among all the explorers, the powerful clan Cyberstorm sent numerous scouting teams in search of any trace of the Forerunner technology and they were extremely fortunate, when Captain Arnold Bennington found, almost guided by his instinct, an extensive subterranean labyrinth in which after two weeks of wandering inside, he finally found what appeared to be an unfinished or disabled gateway (note that to date there is no known way to deactivate a Gateway except by destroying the planet that hosts it) and around which, Bennington discovered with astonishment the reward that half the galaxy was looking for: a whole squadron of formidable Mechs with the appearance of prehistoric monsters.
After proceeding to their extraction and study, it was confirmed that they were Mechs built with Forerunner technology, which like the Ignis model, were mimicking another saurian,  this time the powerful triceratops.

Captain Arnold Bennington was unaware then that his fate would be sealed after his first contact with the work of the Forerunner Droch'ah, whom he would end up serving as his lieutenant, seduced by the unrivaled mind of the Forerunner or perhaps, abducted by his psychic powers.

The technology used in the Aspis opened to scientists and engineers new possibilities in the field of protection against the threat of certain capacities that previously could not be mitigated, as the Splash, Trample, Fork and Wide Fork. Because of its portentous defense capabilities, this Mech was baptized with the name of Aspis, a heavy shield used in antiquity by the hoplitas and infantry of ancient Greece.

Trivia

Triceratops was a herbivorous ceratopsid dinosaur that appeared during the late Cretaceous period, about 68 million years ago. It is one of the last known non-avian dinosaur genera, and became extinct in the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event 66 million years ago.

The term Triceratops ("three-horned face") is derived from the Old Terran Ancient Greek τρί- (tri-) meaning "three", κέρας (kéras) meaning "horn", and ὤψ (ops) meaning "face".

Bearing a large bony frill and three horns on its large four-legged body, and possessing similarities with the modern rhinoceros. The functions of the frills and three distinctive facial horns on its head have long inspired debate. Traditionally, these have been viewed as defensive weapons against predators. Different theories pointed towards other functions, like used in identification, courtship and dominance displays, much like the antlers and horns of modern reindeer, mountain goats, or rhinoceros beetles.

Individual Triceratops are estimated to have reached about 7.9 to 9.0 m (25.9 to 29.5 ft) in length, 2.9 to 3.0 m (9.5 to 9.8 ft) in height, and 6.1 to 12.0 tonnes (13,000 to 26,000 lb) in weight. The most distinctive feature is their large skull, among the largest of all land animals. The largest known skull was estimated to have been 2.5 metres (8.2 ft) in length when complete, and could reach almost a third of the length of the entire animal.

    Ignis

    [Mech Technology]
During a prospecting mission of the legendary RND Chessmen faction in search of Niobium deposits in the desolate wastelands of Yomi, a planet subjected to terrible conditions of extreme gravity and temperatures, the scout Richard Laverty made a finding that would alter the course of the Mech Warfare.

Practically hidden by the convulsed surface orography of the punished surface of Yomi, he found an incredibly old Forerunner enclave. The installation itself, although of extraordinary interest to science by the indications of a superior technology, paled in comparison with that the Chessmen found inside: A full squadron of crimson Mechs of menacing appearance even in their passive state. The units found were endowed with a destructive power such that the first technicians who approached to examine as extraordinary finding were burned by the passive defenses of those Mechs that were baptized with the name of Ignis (Fire), the last word recorded by the transmissions audio received at the base camp.

The Ignis class Mech was built using Forerunner technology, mimicking the Stegosaurus Armatus, ancient dinosaurs from the Late Jurassic Period of Old Terra, and capable of releasing very high amounts of thermodynamic energy with which to reduce to ashes any opponent unconscious enough to approach without the necessary protection.

The RND incorporated the Ignis into their vanguard Clan, sending one of the most damaged prototypes to their current contractors, the Shogunate. AlphaCorp, the Shogunate all mighty manufacturer promptly initiated a reverse engineering study, deciphering for the most part the intricate Forerunner engineering and launching this monster in their production chains.

The Ignis finding was the prelude to Yomi's infestation of scouts sent by the various Great and Minor Powers as well as a swarm of mercenary clans, eager to find similar settlements, in the hope of becoming rich and powerful, and certainly their expectations were not disappointed, because the secrets of Yomi became unlocked for the fortune of some, although also in a graveyard for many others.

    Trivia

Stegosaurus was a sauropod of the Late Jurassic Old Terran period (between 155 and 150 million years ago). This saurian was large, heavily built, herbivorous quadrupeds with rounded back, short fore limbs, long hind limbs, and tail held high in the air.

Easy to identify due to the distinctive double row of kite-shaped plates rising vertically along the rounded back and the two pairs of long spikes extending horizontally near the end of the tail. While the function of this array of plates and spikes has been the subject of much speculation, it was generally agreed that their spiked tails had a defensive use against predators, while their plates may have been used primarily for display, and secondarily for thermoregulatory functions.

Although large individuals could grow up to 9 m (29.5 ft) in length and 5.3 to 7 tonnes (12,000 to 15,000 lb) in weight, the various species of Stegosaurus were dwarfed by contemporaries, the giant sauropods. Some form of armor appears to have been necessary, as Stegosaurus species coexisted with large predatory theropod dinosaurs, such as Allosaurus and Ceratosaurus.

Stegosaurus had a relatively low brain-to-body mass ratio. It had a short neck and a small head, meaning it most likely ate low-lying bushes and shrubs.

The name Stegosaurus means "covered lizard", in reference to its bony plates.

Stegosaurus was one of the best-known dinosaurs during the digital age, and has been featured in vintage film, postal stamps, and many other types of old media.
