Portal Stabilization Device (PSD)

[Astrophysics, Technology]

The Portal Stabilization Device, or PSD, is a tool developed by Dr. Oki o'Conn, from clan Zeon, during the year 3317, in the attempt to counter the Second wave of the Unification's Assault to our dimension.

The opportunity to create the PSD was given by Unification themselves during a blind attack on Zeon facilities (in their belief that Zeon were the same thing as their arch enemies in their own dimension: Xeon). Although the attack was successful, a sudden fluctuation in the gate used by Unification forces caused their PSD to become dislodged and it fell into the warm-tunnel to land in our own dimension.

In the retreat, Zeon forces managed to spot the strange artefact and captured it from the hands of their assaulters.

This extraordinary stroke of good luck marked the turning point in the war against the Unification invasion.

A cluster of Zeon scientists led by Dr. Oki o´Conn went into a quick, but deep study of the dimensional device, allowing them to emulate a weaker version of the Unification mechanism. While the new Zeon device couldn't fully open a gate to jump into the alternative dimension, it was strong enough as to affect the exit of Unification forces coming through the gate. Dr. Oki o´Conn and his team refined and mass produced the PSD, allowing all the mercenary clans to acquire the tool for the war against Unification. Dr Oki o´Conn's PSD granted greater control to our forces over the gates used by Unification but only on our side of the dimensional warps they were using.

The mercenary clans used PSDs to counter the portals to intercept the Unification's cargo drones, breaking their supply lines and acquiring the necessary advantage during the war in the Clarke Federation Sector, where Unification forces were forced to retreat to their dimension.

The PSD works by tuning a nearby unstable gateway, interfering with the dimensional continuum and granting an expanded duration of the short life on the unstable gateways. The unstable gateways were caused by the recent destruction of the Chroniode, which also allowed them to be disrupted. Although the ability to verify and travel to the Unification's dimension couldn't be completed, the activation of the PSD still requires high amounts of Lisi energy and so, large amounts of Niodes must be used in the activation or control of each gateway.

Further research has shown that the ancient anomaly known as the Mystery Vortex, shares the same scheme as the PSD, connecting different dimensions and opening a chance to lurk supplies from different dimensions to deliver them in our own space and time.

Heroes

[Mecha Mercenary Faction]

Motto: ‘In war, the heroes always outnumber the soldiers ten to one.’

Heroes are a growing mecha family created by John Fuller and Colin Grant, it’s two founding fathers. It’s C.I.C. is the elite pilot John Fuller.
~Heroes~ banner
Heroes first appearance was in Clan Wars III, March 3267 making it one of the oldest clans in continuous existence after the Northwind Highlanders.

Heroes past alliances include many legendary factions. During Faction Wars I & II they allied themselves with The Bouncing Blue Brotherhood. In Faction Wars III they allied themselves with Exiles. More recently in Faction Wars V & VI they have allied themselves with AFF.

Legendary Pilots: Skywise

"The best offense is a good defense." That is the philosophy that Skywise lives by, and for him no mecha represents this better than the Ammonite. At the controls of his Ammonite "Treestump", The combination of its exceptional capacity to weather incoming fire, a flexible weapons loadout allowing for easy and effective customization, and advanced targeting and tracking systems, Skywise has earned multiple top placements in a variety of tournaments"

Heroes Lore:

A brave Heroes pilot only answering to the call sign 'Spartacus' risked his life to acquire the co-ordinates for Gorax's base. Then ‘Spartacus’ and his Heroes family held the gateway, fighting off wave after wave of Gorax’s forces, buying the other mercenary clans enough time to re-group and attack Gorax’s base.

The Legionnaires hired the Heroes family of mercenaries to supplement their units and provide 'advisors' for limited tonnage and rapid counter-strike missions during a flare up of tensions between the Shogunate and Illyrian Hegemony in 3317. Which worsened in 3318 when Evil Santa’s minions began a concentrated search in the area attacking anyone and everyone they encountered.

During this time, several Onyx Mecha were ‘miss-placed’ by the Legionnaire forces leaving a disparity in the number of Onyx Mecha held. It was believed by the Legionnaires that the Heroes family had some sort of hand in these Mechs disappearance because they were so unwilling to hand their Onyx Mechs back. Their investigation, though, only concluded that every Onyx Mech held in the hangers of the Heroes family had the accompanying paperwork to go with it proving that the Onyx Mechs under investigation were legally owned by Heroes.

Current active clans within Heroes Faction and first Clan War appearance:

  • Heroes: Clan Wars III - March 3267 – Silver Medal
  • Heroes II: Clan Wars XII - September 3278 – Bronze Medal
  • Heroes Light Brigade: Clan Wars XXII - Porktober 3294 – Bronze Medal

Battle of Srixin

[History, War]

Preamble

Winter 3316; After the destruction of the Chroniode during the Battle of Yomi against the last stand of Droch'ah in the hostile undergrounds of the Yomi planet, and the consequent distortion created on the dimensional continuum, several small gateways began to appear everywhere, connecting our dimension to a foreign parallel dimension in which a deviant version of our own history existed.

A new menace

This parallel dimension was, at the time, controlled by a hegemonic faction known as Unification (counterpart of the Fusion clan in our dimension), who was recovering from a cruel war against its mortal enemy, Xeon, who attempted to take over Unification's galaxy. Unification, believing that Xeon was supported by agents from our own dimension, then attempted to finish their work eradicating all Xeon trace from our world.

Beach-head

The Unification Army had gathered Intel by infilrating the pirate organizations and was able to start their First Offensive against our dimension by invading a wide sector in the Illyrian doman.

Unification's Blitzkrieg

Applying the old doctrine that the old Terra Axis forces used during the second great war in the pre-digital era, Unification developed lightning attacks launched from unexpected gates against neuralgic points of great tactical importance.

Unification kept the advantage of surprise through their spear attacks, devastating facilities and outposts before the defenders could even react. It was only a matter of time before they controlled a wide sector of the Hegemony.

In their desperation, the Illyrian Hegemony, whose forces had been overrun by the Unification's Army, once again hired the services of mercenary clans. At this time, many of them were already fighting the Unification forces, as they that the galaxy they knew was destined to be destroyed.

After several months of intense fighting, Unification acquired control over a wide ground. With several worlds now under their control, the focus of the fighting progressed through the gateway configuration towards the planet Srixin.

Prior to Srixin, the edge of the war was totally under Unification's control, but things were close to changing...

Srixin, a break point

The gateways don't have a direct connection to each other, they are linked in an apparent ly chaotic pattern. As many links have been lost since their inception by the Forerunner Civilization, there is a meta-geography, with virtual frontiers and corridors configured by the deployed gateways in service.

Regarding the gateway configuration in the Illyrian Hegemony sector controlled by the Unification Army, Srixin happened to be a knot of communication, essentially a bottleneck, which was indeed a colossal stroke of luck for our defences.

This meant that if the Mercenary clans could keep the Srixin field under their control, they could break the Blitzkrieg Unification strategy and get a unique chance to deliver a definitive blow to the Unification Army, stopping them before they could get a stable foothold into our galaxy.

Into the furnace

Srixin's environment also gave an advantage to the Allied Forces, as the Unification Army was unaware of the ecology of the planet. Srixin's surface is almost completely covered by the Bomag's gluevines plantations, an extremely volatile and highly flammable plant.

The mercenary clans knew this information thanks to the Direct Action Group reports and made the most of the situation. By favouring the bottleneck and the flammability of the plantations they turned the battlefield into a giant furnace by using the plasma weapons delivered by the Illyrian Novum Dolorum factories.

The sum of these factors, combined with a huge amount of luck, gave the mercenary clans the miracle they needed to send the invading forces fleeing back to their dimension, but not before both sides had suffered heavy losses.

The battle of Srixin commenced at the end of the year 3316 and finished with the last Unification forces retreat in March, 3317.

ANN: Asterion News Network

[News Network, Society]

Born from the attempts of several clans to penetrate each other's intelligence networks, brought together by a love for Mechas, and fuelled by the ever-popular ANN Niode Card, accepted at every bar from Pirate Moon to Yomi; ANN is where pilots from every clan can share their stories, their knowledge, and their opinions.
It was their original editorial team of Moe Lee and Justin Verret who established the solid editorial policies of ANN. Born from the outright theft of information from rival clans, ANN has prided itself on wanting to hear from every side in the conflict, setting the niode standard on clone and bionic replacement parts for their reporters on the ground in every division from King of the Mountain to Clan War or Raid.  If you got shot in Mecha Galaxy, one of the ANN reporters should have caught splash from it.

John T. Mainer, Daniel Scott, Bob Schlomer, and Sten Hugo Hiller now combine to cover every aspect from tournament to technical development, from economics to entertainment. Every division experiences a different challenge in Mecha Galaxy and with the high pace of developments what was true yesterday will not be true tomorrow.  ANN is always seeking new victims-that is new volunteer correspondents, to join them on the front lines, seeking the truth on the ground at mecha level.

ANN takes submissions from pilots of all clans and the unaffiliated.  They pay good niodes not only for your stories, for your interviews, but for your mecha analysis, your equipment reviews, your opinions on the state of the galaxy.  ANN doesn’t just want to hear what you say, ANN is willing to pay for it.  Interviews with our correspondents pay 30 niodes, and original story work 30- 60 depending on length.  Original artwork and editorials are also gleefully accepted.  Tell your story, spread the fame of your clan, have your greatest battles remembered, oh, and get PAID to do so.

The Galaxy Gathering

[News Network, Society]

The Galaxy Gathering (GG) is one of the great News Publishing Networks in the Galaxy, specialized in news relevant to the Mecha Warfare.

They follow an open news sharing policy, allowing the wide mecha pilot community to submit their own stories, reviews and mecha gossip.

GG has also a team of liaisons and free-lance journalists travelling across the gateways in pursuit of the latest and newest breaking news. All the Staff members and co-workers in "The Galaxy Gathering" are renowned and skilled mecha pilots.

Check here if you want to submit original articles, stories, gossip or art-work

Submissions Requirements
  • GG doesn't want to double up on posts. Any already submitted (and published) submission into A.N.N. or MeGaCom or even the Mechanomicon won't be published as G.G. is trying to keep original content, avoiding duplications between the different networks. (Submitting into the Galactic Open Forum and to GG is fine).
  • Stories (Lore is perfectly fine, so long as it follows the already established existing in the Galaxy lore and doesn't go too far off the path).
  • Galaxy Gossip, fun, frivolous or outright untrue news articles, although anything deemed malicious such as name calling or calling out of anyone will not be published as GG isn't a political or a personal argumentative place.
  • Mecha, equipment and weapon reviews.
  • Faction and Clan Banners and any other art-design.
  • Please remember to include your pilot license number along with your name.

History

April, 3281.
The Galaxy Gathering officially debuted as a News Host created by Patrick Willis to keep every pilot informed about the ongoing news in the Galaxy, but also, as a living forum to keep the feedback of the Mecha Pilot Community, so as to voice their will regarding organizations like the Galactic Senate or the Mecha Games & Tournaments Direction.

The starting GG Staff was comprised of:
  • Patrick Willis, Managing Director & Chief Editor (Pilot License # 224534)
  • Deborah Roaché-Hudak. Editor and Journalist (Pilot License # )
  • Joel Parras (aka KilotoneRecoil), The Brotherhood Liaison & Galaxy Gossip Section- Editor (Pilot License # 637457)
  • Sgt Ron Frye, GG Journalist (Pilot License #879655)

Patrick Willis, who initially worked as an editor and journalist with the ANN (Asterion News Network), decided to create his own News Group, incorporating fresh and new ideas, looking to preserve the Galactic Lore and striving for excellence.

Although the first Staff members were all of them pilots from the Brotherhood (Mecha Faction), Patrick Willis, as Director of the G.G. always tried to keep the GG platform as neutral as possible, in order to work as the voice of all Mecha Pilots.

In 3292, with the incorporation of Steven Ross and Hugo Sten Hiller, then in 3299 with David McCallum and finally, in 3307 with the addition of Kenneth Hicks, the Galaxy Gathering acquired new blood from outside the Brotherhood, winning a wider vision and winds of universality, matching with the always pursued Patrick's goals to create a Network for every Pilot.
  • Steve Ross, Zeon's Liaison Editor. (Pilot License # 162076)
  • Sten Hugo Hiller. Star League Liaison and Events journalist. (Pilot License # 627184)
  • David McCallum, Heroes' Liaison & Editor. (Pilot License # 701548)
  • Kenneth Hicks, Dragon's Liaison, Story and Events Editor. (Pilot License # 846092)

Since its creation, GG has proved to be an excellent News Editorial Group, often antagonistic to ANN fighting for the spectators and readers Galactic Share, with peaks of open fire sometimes, and tense peace on other occasions... And is that, competition is the competition.

The Snack Bar

[Restoration, leisure and support]

Fuzzy Dice
Among the favourite Mecha pilot clubs of the galaxy, the number one might be the Snack Bar: a cybernetic bar that not only provides a relaxing time and a space where you can share the story of your last adventures and victories with your fellows, but also a full plug-in service that works as a console support in addition to your AI's services.

For those using the Galactic Chrome Plugin, it is available for free and is an excellent supportive app that will improve the Mecha CCC (Cockpit Console Capabilities).

The Plugin adds a row of buttons for the consumable items in the Galaxy plus a "Receive All Gifts" service on the Gifts page.

This Chrome extension adds an extra row of buttons to many of the Mecha Galaxy pages giving you quick access to the items you need most, how many you have and whether or not you've used all you can for the day!

- Seed Crystals
- Hatoraide
- Large Hatoraide
- Stim Pack
- Large Stim Pack

It also has a drop down menu accessed from its icon with links to many of the pages Mecha Galaxy players will find useful.

  • VERSION 1.4 - Now with GiftAide! Thanks to a fellow coder we are adding the ability to accept all your gifts with a single button! Go to the Gift page as you normally would and look for this great new feature! (Note that by using this option, all the returning gifts will be stim packs, to return the same one you received, you will have to send them back "by hand")
  • VERSION 1.9 - Adds filtering to the Buy page. You now have filters to hide the items you can't afford or aren't a high enough level to use!
  • VERSION 1.94 - Adds a text box to the Choose your Battle screen where you can type in the level of the opponents you'd like to see!

Battle of Yomi

[War, History]

The Battle of Yomi took place in the year 3315, in the hostile undergrounds of the Yomi planet, and pitted the Forerunner Droch´ah and his League of Ages against a coalition of the most powerful mercenary clans.

Beneath Yomi's Darkness

Beneath the perilous surface of Yomi, there are miles and miles of endless tunnels or caverns, some natural ones, others a product of past intensive mining exploration, that create a maze in which only the most brave dare to enter, and where being trapped by the terrible gravitational force isn't the worst thing that could happen to you.

In these tunnels, the last Forerunner and archvillan of the galaxy known by the name of Droch´ah, concentrated the majority of his forces, mainly composed of clone armies commanded by his close henchmen of the League of the Ages.

A maze at war

The development of Yomi's underground battle was anything but orderly, since during its course the forces of both sides engaged not in battles, but in multiple confrontations of life or death. Subject to the terrible rigor of the planet, as well as the confusion generated by the thousands of tunnels, some mercenaries are still roaming, lost, and many others found an unforeseen tomb, buried beneath thousands of tons of rock.

But finally, using the maps of some of Droch'ah's commanders defeated in the skirmishes, the mercenary clans managed to locate the underground fortress of the villain, and began the real battle.

The destruction of the Chroniode

During the final battle, the Chroniode was destroyed (an artifact that allowed Droch'ah to travel through time, escaping numerous ambushes and employing it to reunite his League of Ages); although it is unknown whether because of the mercenary clan action or if Droch'ah himself destroyed it in desperation, an attempt to prevent the mercenaries from appropriating the artifact.

Although some mercenary pilots maintain the opinion that Droch´ah was killed during the battle, this information has not been verified, since, although some affirm to have finished his life by beating down his legendary Regis, Droch'ah´s mortal remains haven´t been found.

After the battle, shards of the Chroniode were found and reported to provide the ability to accelerate the mecha upgrading process in an incredible way.

A space-time breach

Another collateral result of the destruction of the Chroniode has been the apparent destabilization of the space-time continuum, causing phenomena such as the proliferation of smaller gateways over a long period of time.
