Behemoth

[Mercenary Clan]
By Der-Reiko
Introduction

Behemoth was formed at the tail end of the year 3325. A short time after the decommission of the 144th Caissan Light Cavalry. Robert Peeters as CO, Bryan Beasley as XO, Jeff C Day III as Personal Commander, Stug Hill as Tactical Commander, Pappy Black as Tech Commander. Behemoth missed out on the Clan War 3326 due to their year long battle with pirates in the Behemoth Belt over the Niobium mining asteroid 762, which was renamed the Rookery as a reminder that they were once Chessmen and the costly battle for the mining colony M.C. 762 on a near by moon in the Behemoth Belt.

Tournaments Chronology

Clan Wars 3327

The year 3327 was Behemoth's first showing in the clan wars. Against some stiff competition Behemoth was able to claim a bronze medal in division eleven.

Squad Wars 3328

The year 3328 brought Squad Wars. Behemoth facing a tough decision on where to split the clan, a unexpected ally of Bryan Beasley's Behemoth was able to split evenly into two squads, Behemoth lead by Robert Peeters and Ghost (later renamed Behemoth's Ghost Squad) lead by Garviel Loken. Behemoth claimed a bronze medal and Ghost lost all three rounds. At the end of 3328 personal affairs arose for CO Robert Peeters. Prompted Robert to resign as CO of Behemoth and promoting XO Bryan Beasley to CO, Jeff Day to XO, Stug Hill to Personal Commander, Pappy Black to Tactical Commander, and Msteven Salo to Tech Commander.

Bryan Beasley as CO
Faction Wars 3329

Faction Wars 3329 Behemoth was all most left out of it until Donald Alligood of Black Star offered a temporary alliance for both clans could participate in the war. While Behemoth's focus was on the Faction Wars the pirates attack some of Behemoth's small Mecha installations they used while they made room in the Rookery for Black Star pilots. Returning from the Faction Wars with a bronze medal to discover the chaos the pirates inflicted on the Mecha installations Behemoth hunted the pirates cells down only to find them gone.

Clan Wars 3330

The year 3330 saw a influx of new members for Behemoth as well as the departure of three of it is founding members to other clans. Not to be detoured Behemoth went into Clan Wars with new vigour and claimed their first silver medal in division 11.  With half of their winnings Behemoth spent the rest of the year expanding the Rookery to prevent the sabotage from the pirates from happening again.

Clan Wars 3331

The year 3331 saw Behemoth repeat its success from the previous year with its second silver medal in division 11.

Clan Wars 3332

The year 3332 saw Behemoth moved up to division 10. Facing tougher competition and was able to claim a bronze medal in their first showing in the new division.

Clan Wars 3333

The year 3333 saw Behemoth unable to claim a victory in any of the three rounds of the Clan Wars which left Behemoth with no medals.

Clan Wars 3334

The year 3334 saw Behemoth undetoured by the lost from the previous year they used it as fuel for their drive to win. Behemoth fought with new vigour and claimed a silver medal in division 10.

Faction Wars 3335

The year 3335 saw Behemoth signing a alliance with Borg to fight in the Faction Wars. The alliance was beneficial for both clans, but the competition was tougher than expected and the Borg Alliance was unable to claim any victories in each round and they were unable to claim any medals.

Fragments of the holographic diary of commander Bryan Beasley:

"It has been three years since the last Squad Wars and I remember it like it was yesterday. Most of the 144th Caissan Light Cavalry were gathered in the mission briefing room for our Post-Clan War debriefing. As I looked around the room there were two of our vets, Stug "Sticky" Hill and Jeff "The Knight" Day… Plus the other rooks like myself, Robert "The Beast" Peteers and Pappy "Ice Man" Black.

The door opened and our Commander In Chief entered the room. “Hello, everyone. This debriefing is going to be different than our normal one. I have some good news, some bad news, and some of it… the worst news.”

He sat on the table. He looked tired.

“This unit did well. Both squads won silver medals. That’s the good news. You have some prestige. I’m proud of you.”

The smile faded, and he rubbed his knees.

“The bad news is that the Senate of Caissa has voted to decommission all RND clans. A lot of talk about damaging the environment. The planet’s remote location on the Niode Gate network. Association with pirates. I don’t know. And they want me to retire as Commander In Chief. They want me off the circuit.”

There was a long silence. No one knew what to say or what to think.

"The Senate has graciously given each of you thirty days to finish your personal business and make arrangements to move all of your personally owned mecha and military equipment off planet to locations of your choice. The Senate also agreed to pay off all of your contracts with them, your final maintenance and repair expenses, as well as your transportation off world. It was a great honor and pleasure serving with all of you. I wish you all the best of luck."

Richard slowly stood up saluted everyone and shook each of our hands. As he got to me with a hint of a smile on his face, he said,

"You did a good job out there for your first time leading a full squad. Oh… and this came for you."

He reached into the thigh pocket of his worn jump suit, pulled out a small packet and handed it to me. Then he made for the door and opened it for himself. As he started to go out, he stopped. He looked around the room one last time, and smiled.

"Memories," he said as he stepped out, closing the door behind him.

Over

Recording two days later.

As we gathered in the command center to get ready for Faction Wars 3329, we had just finalized our temporary alliance with Black Star, and their pilots began to unload their war gear and work gangs. The hustle and bustle in the hangar reminded me of the last day of the 144th Caissan Light Cavalry and the formation of Behemoth.

---

As CIC Richard Millich closed the door, it took us a moment for the thought of us being without a clan to sink in. Robert "The Beast" Peeters snapped us out of our long silence. "What are we going to do now?"

Stug "Sticky" Hill said, - We can either join another clan or clans, or we can start our own. We have thirty days to figure it out -.

- I think we should start our own clan - , added Jeff "The Knight" Day.

- I second that -, said Pappy "The Ice Man" Black.

- I'm in agreement with the both of them -, Robert added.

Bryan "The 13th Wulf" Beasley said, - Then it looks like we are starting our own clan, and if we are doing that, then we need to find a place to call home and a name for it -.

- Then we should meet here later today with ideas on where we will call home and what our name should be -, added Stug.

- 13:00 then -, suggested Jeff.

- I second that -, Pappy responded.

- And I third it -, Robert said firmly.

- Then we are all in agreement. 13:00 it is -, Bryan decided.

As I left the room, I thought about the envelope CIC had given me. I pulled it out of my pocket and opened it. I pulled out a holophoto of the Old Wulf and all thirteen of us clones. It was like the one I had hanging in my locker. Except the normal tears that mine had, this one was torn differently at one side. I could see what looked like a side view of a female's head. I flipped it over to find coordinates written on the back of it.

Robert said, - Are you okay, Bryan? You look like you have seen a ghost -.

- Huh? Oh, umm, yeah. I'm fine. It’s just… something I need to talk to the Old Wulf about -, I replied.

As 13:00 arrived, Robert "The Beast" Peeters, Stug "Sticky" Hill, Pappy "The Ice Man" Black, Jeff "The Knight" Day, I, Bryan "13th Wulf" Beasley and the retired CIC Richard “Zax” Millich, gathered in the command center with all of our ideas for a new clan. Richard had come to give us advice on the best course of action.

I said then, - Well I came up with two names: the Dark Angels, or Legio Gladius -.

- A little dark for you all, no pun intended, and Legio Gladius is too obscure to be immediately inspiring -, Richard pointed out.

- Guess a too lofty name like ‘Mecha Paladins’ seems both too pretentious and is too hard to live up to -, Stug sighed.

- Also true -, Richard said, stroking his goatee.

- How about Storm Ryders? -, Pappy suggested.

- Nice idea, but there would be legal trouble in the future for you -, Richard smirked.

- Rob’s Rough Riders -, Robert bellowed before laugh, and we all laughed with him.

- Okay. So I have finally come to a decision on the clan name -, Robert said with a hand raised. - But I want all of your opinions before I move forward. I spent a lot of time deliberating a good symbolic name for us -.

- We are having to rebuild, from scratch, our ideals, our wants and our needs -. Robert continued.

- As such, I feel that our name should be Phoenix Imperium. We will build a new structure for how the circuit is played. That has been the goal. We will rise like a phoenix who has burst into flames and start anew. We will build a new imperium from which our foundation shall be the focus of intellect, friendship, camaraderie, and the mindset of rebuilding our home within the circuit -.

- Sounds like a good plan -, replied Stug. - But Phoenix (BHG) might feel we infringe on their name, but then again, they might not -.

- That is the right idea. But you have to watch what name you use, especially if you want to be independent of the other clans. Or ally with them at a later date -, said then Richard, and he added. - Image is important, and symbols are eventually used as weapons or shields. You may also be opening yourselves to guilt by association -.

- True. Let’s put this name thing to the side and try to find us a new place to fight out of -, Pappy said.

- I heard of an abandoned Niobium mining facility in the Behemoth asteroid belt. It might be full of pirates, but we should take them pretty easily -, said then Robert, and we watched each other at the mention of the Behemoth name.

- Looks like we found ourselves a base and a name -, said Bryan.
- All of those in favor of Behemoth, say aye, and all of those who disagree, say nay -.

We went around the table.

Everyone, in sequence, gave the same answer, as in a ritual: - Aye -

Bryan smiled and Richard spoke: - Looks like the aye's have it, and seeing how you came up with the place, Robert, knowing the territory, I would suppose you would have to be the leader -.

- Well if I am going to be leader -, Robert answered with a smile on his face, - Then Bryan will be our executive officer, Jeff will be our personal commander, Stug will be our tactical commander, and Pappy will be technical commander -

- Looks like we have everything settled then -, added Jeff.
