Blackwing Bandits

Blackwing Sigil (by GJ)

The Blackwing Bandits have been in operation nearly as long as Mechs have existed. They have also maintained a reputation for using subtlety and deception to achieve their goals rather than relying on smash and grab operations less organized outlaws rely on. Not that Blackwing will not use overwhelming force if the situation warrants it as they did in 3321-22 (*see Battle of Dorrin 4).

Their first daring raid occurred less than three years after the Red Ant was introduced in 3087. As Mech technology was still in its infant stages there were not enough pilots available to ferry the new Mech from factories to the training facilities scattered throughout the Hegemony. Seizing this opportunity the Blackwing Bandits disguised themselves as heavy mining equipment transport outfit and put in a bid for a contract to haul the Hegemony equipment at a discounted rate. Rather than a risky raid against a heavily fortified base the Bandits simply sat in the cab of their newly purchased vehicles while the Illyrian military loaded then up with several dozen Mechs fresh off the assembly line.

It is this ability to use both brawn and brains that makes the Blackwing Bandits so dangerous. It also accounts for the longevity of their organization.

There is a great deal of speculation on the true relationship between the Blackwing Bandits and the Pirate King. Some military analysts claim that the Bandits are employed by him when it suits both of their purposes while others insist the Pirate King is in fact, their leader.
