Yomi

[Planetology, Astronomy]

Planet type

Rocky-deserted planet with low ecological value and high miner interest. Low atmosphere, not terraformed.

System star

Quark Star.

Domain

Wilderness. In the past run by the Shogunate.

Etymology

Yomi ("yellow springs or wells") is the land of dead (the inferno or hell) in the Shogunate's mythology, where the dead go after life. Once one has been eaten by the lands of Yomi, it is not possible to return to the land of the living.

Status/Activity

Reported pirate hideouts and other outlaw activities. The planet was declared as an interdicted area by the Shogunate when, after leave any interest in the harsh planet because of the difficulties of the extraction of its resources and given the extreme gravity that constantly damaged the mining machinery, the pirates began to use the never ending tunnels of the underground as a hideout and storage for their booties.

Gravity

Quite superior to the standard terraformed planet’s type, Yomi's gravity is categorized as an averaged 3G planet. There are gravitational surges in the area called Yomi Reefs, where the closest star activity can highly increase its attraction power over the planet.

Atmosphere

Very tenuous atmosphere that is barely able to protect the planet from external radiation and meteoric action. The high gravity and extreme solar winds and air pressure, create atmospheric anomalies that often gives rise to deadly magnetic and electric storms.

Ecology

Poor, with dangerous specimens adapted to its most extreme environments.

Geology

The planet is mostly a rock mass with a composition rich in iron and other minerals, which included niobium deposits in the past.
The different substrates show a great geological age with a moderate volcanic activity during its formation. The planet also experienced great tectonic movements greatly influenced by the extreme gravity caused by the proximity with its star.

Surface

The surface shows wide areas of shattered and cratered rocky regions with harsh sandy deserts, caused by the meteor action along with the violent storms and winds. The canyons that can be found are evidence of a more benevolent past in which the planet had a higher terraformed degree.

A planet-graveyard

Yomi is called the Mech Graveyard because over time, thousands of Mechs have been trapped by the extreme environmental dangers; the main cause has been the extremely intense gravity trapping those who approached without skills enough to manoeuvre in the high-G atmosphere.

Underground: Beneath the shattered surface, Yomi has countless tunnels that run for miles, caused by different reasons, such as violent tectonic activity, past water sources, the Vol Wurm ecology and past mining activity.

History

In 3015, military reports pointed to increasing activity related to Droch'ah's agents in the undergrounds. The mercenary clans were contracted to search and destroy Droch'ah in the high gravity tunnels where he was preparing a large army. The Chroniode was destroyed during the assault, shattered in several fragments and Droch'ah himself was reported to have fallen in combat. Many experienced pilots believe this was not his end, as several times it has been shown he has miraculous resources to avoid the definitive fate.

This incident led, in the opinion of some analysts and scientists, to the disturbances in the gateways and the appearance in 3016 of the Unification Threat.

Legionnaires of Galactic Trade

[Society, Military, Technology]

Although considered the last of the most influent manufacturer factions of the Society of Cogwerk Planets, they hold the job of protecting the Cogwerk borders as the most experienced explorers and galactic traders in their wide range commercial missions across the galaxy.

They rule the Cogwerk Sector of Legion.

They are well known as a sort of militarized corps that pursue the pirates and watch the frontiers whilst escorting and protecting the trade routes from outer menaces. For their tasks, some historians have compared them to the ancient Templar Knights from the Earth´s medieval ages.

As manufacturers, they produce the following mechs:
  • Hoplite, a medium mech designed as defensive or choke point unit.
  • Spitfire, a heavy mech focused on offensive capabilities designed to burn the Ambershard Stalker swarms.
  • Ammonite, a sturdy version of the Hoplite and an outstanding force.
  • Onyx, a huge mech projected as a solid offensive/defensive platform.

Most Esteemed Brotherhood of San Lorenzo

[Society, Politic, Technology]

The Most Esteemed Brotherhood of San Lorenzo is the most pacifist of all the factions in the Society of Cogwerk Planets. Of religious foundations, this congregation of hermitage engineers has achieved great renown as a group of peace-loving scientists. Although fiery defenders of their Independence, and they refuse to take part in any armed conflict, they won't hesitate to use the magnificent Mechs they produce to defend themselves.

They are allocated in the Sector of San Lorenzo, considered their domain.

Rumours exist that the Brotherhood of San Lorenzo maintains some kind of contact with the mysterious Craftsmen.

Furthermore, they have been reported to maintain some sort of Mech production activity. The truth is that they have the infrastructure to keep heavy Mech assembly lines, but they jealously guard their secrets and affairs away from the looks of the curious and the nosy.

High reliability filtrations report that the hermit engineers of San Lorenzo are the producers of the following Mech.

Novum (25 Tons Light Mech)
Jaddon (90 Tons BFM)
Yallan (95 Tons BFM)

Revenant (105 Tons UFM)

Trinitarian Symposium

[Society, Politic, Technology]

The Trinitarian Symposium is the third faction of importance in the Society of Cogwerk Planets. They maintain the greatest commercial activity, and this is the reason why they rule the Chamber of Arbitration and Commerce, regulating the activity in the Cogwerk Commonwealth markets.

They rule the Cogwerk sector of Trinitas.

The Trinitarian Symposium keeps contact with almost all other trading houses throughout the Galaxy, as well as with other manufacturers, achieving beneficial and global contracts and links. For this reason, they often perform diplomatic duties when there is no representative of Consolidated Mecha available.

As a manufacturer, the Trinitarian Symposium Industry is the largest provider of missile ammunition and produce the following missile mechs:

  • Banshee, The elite "mutant" mech first discovered in the Rizpah Moon.
  • Orester, heavy mech designed as bombardment multi-target unit.
  • Although they are currently now producing other missile mechs, there are some disputes about the rights to their productions.

Consolidated Mecha

[Society, Politic, Technology]

Consolidated Mecha is the major and most influential faction in the Society of Cogwerk Planets.
As the main power, they assumed the governmental role in the lead of the SoCP, with the agreement of the remnant factions of the Cogwerk commonwealth.

They rule the Cogwerk Sector of Consol, considered by some as the administrative capital area of the Cogwerk Space.

As Manufacturer Group, Consolidated Mecha made a name with the development and production of a couple very effective mech, as the elite Axebot mech class and the huge Dreadnought class, a titan of 85 tons that has been an asset in several battles.

Consolidated Mecha produce the following mecha classes:
  • Axebot, an elite light mech that excels for special tactics.
  • Holmes, a medium mech designed as mobile command unit for guerrilla war.
  • Buccaneer, an elite multipurpose and troop mech.
  • Nifthel, a medium mech that would fight fire with ice.
  • Dreadnought, the star of Consolidated Mecha; one of the most effective huge mechs, designed to seek and destroy the enemy.

Talbus Arms

[Society, Military, Technology]

Considered to be the second most powerful and influential faction of the Society of Cogwerk Planets.

Talbus Arms control the Cogwerk Sector of Talbus.

Regarding their society system, Talbus Arms holds the role of Inner Security Force and High Military Command in the Society of Cogwerk Planets.

As a Mecha Corporation and Manufacturer, they produce the following Mechs:
  • Shocklite, a light missile Mech.
  • iMech, a medium Mech for extra-atmospheric combat.
  • Buchis, a heavy elite Mech for long term combat.
  • Bishop, a heavy Mech that excells as point for big offensives.
  • Reaper, a BFM Mech class designed to counter the most dangerous menaces.

Society of Cogwerk Planets (SoCP)

[Society, Politic]

The Society of Cogwerk Planets (also known as SoCP) constitutes one of the three major powers, competing as an equal with the Illyrian Hegemony and the Meiji Shogunate in power and influence through the whole Galaxy.
Society of Cogwerk Planets Flag (By GJ)
The Cogwerk political system is a flexible Commonwealth of Planets, with a Great Chamber of Representatives that are only summoned in times of extreme need. Normally, the Cogwerk settlements operate semi-autonomously, as trade-metropolis with definite roles for each faction.

In the 3000's, the success of the Cogwerk Commonwealth led them into the Project to create an exhaustive document that consolidated the relations among the associated planets and supported a common and solid Justice System for them. On June 15, 3015, the representatives of the original Society of Cogwerk Planets met on the planet Greenfall to sign the Great Chart, also known as the Great Treaty, as the very foundation of their Law and Justice System.

Cogwerk space is divided in sectors, from which the larger and most important are controlled by the five major factions in the Cogwerk Commonwealth. Those sectors are: Consol, Talbus, Trinitas, San Lorenzo and Legion.

First Breach

[Astrophysics]

During the year 3313, the event happened that has been identified as the first breach between the parallel Galaxy from where the Unification Army came and our own Galaxy.

Although some hypotheses point towards the destruction of the Chroniode in 3315 as a direct cause of the Gateway disturbances (produced in near past and future time), this has not yet been proven.

The incident considered as the first trans-galactic breach, or contact, occurred in the verdant moon of Rizpah, in the Cogwerk domains, when a reconnaissance patrol caught a peak of energy activity in the jungle. When they arrived to the point where the disturbance was detected, they witnessed a tremulous vibrating hole in the air, looking like the gateways, but without the technology to anchor it; and the strangest thing of all, below the vibrant gate and arranged in perfect order of parade, the patrol found a contingent of 146 "mutant looking mechs", in perfect status, but without pilots or surveillance of any kind.

The odd mechs were taken to the Cogwerk Headquarters and later delivered to the Trinitarian Symposium Research facilities for their analysis and reverse engineer. The Trinitarian, as the greatest Cogwerk manufacturer of missile weaponry were the best option to successfully assimilate the mutant tech and start producing a new adaptation that was baptized as Banshee class mecha.

Direct Action Group

[Military]

The Direct Action Group (DAG), is one of the most elite combat forces of the Illyrian Hegemony. The DAG operatives are a part of the Defence Department, under direct command of the General Staff.
DAG's motto: Nec spe, nec metu (Old Earth Latin: "neither hope nor fear")

The mission of the DAG includes, among many other tasks: Special and Black Ops, reconnaissance in high-risk hostile environments, escort and protection of high-interest targets, as well as high-mobility action and war operations.

The DAG provides a fast and heavy attack force always ready to protect the interests of the Hegemony in any part of the Galaxy.

To accomplish the many duties of the DAG, approximately 7000,000 officers and enlisted mech pilots participate in special actions: Operating high tech mechs, equipment and devices; gathering intelligence; infiltration, survey and map territory; hack AI's, maintain and repair equipment and perform hundreds of other changeling tasks.

The DAG's heavy mechanized strike forces make up one-third of the Illyrian mech squadrons and when they enter combat, is their proud to fight above their capabilities as if there were not a tomorrow.

It is not uncommon for the DAG to recruit their operatives among former experienced mercenary clan pilots, but not before recycling them to ensure the proper discipline that characterizes to the Illyrian Army.

In the years 3316 and 3317, during the Unification invasion, the DAG forces have distinguished themselves with equal valour and effectiveness equal to that of some of the most powerful elite mercenary clans.

Justin Verret

[Legendary Pilot]

Justin Verret (aka "Shameless") License Pilot Number: 10698.

He made his name in 2361, after a victory in the highest division for the inaugural King of the Mountain with a squad built mostly with from Smilodons. The strength, deadly shots, feline like speed and maneuvering of the Smilodon were a force that nobody could oppose.

By Justin & German.
Published at MeGaCom
During his career, he has been a member of the legendary and now disbanded MurderBots and was also leader of the famous CyberStorm. Currently, he fights among the collection of bizarre, dangerous and legendary pilots that feeds one of the strongest Clans in the whole Galaxy: Zeon.

Despite his love for the Smilodons, (almost a century has passed and he is still sending claims to Alpha Corps for the long time ago promised Super Smilodon next generation) time has passed and now there are other stronger and more effective Mechs came on service, Justin has been caring modernizing his force over this time, to lead a set of deadlier elite mechs that the various manufacturers have produced.

In his own words, “I'm a successful MechWarrior and Commander.  I've led clans at the pinnacle of the Galaxy for longer than anyone else.  Love it or hate it, that's a fact.   My friends can count on me, and though I'm not in the top five, or even top ten pilots anymore, those who underestimate me do so at their peril”.

Weapons of Choice (at level 216):
  • Ice: 110
  • Laser & Fire: 80
  • Cannon: 50
  • Missile: 0
First Gold Medals:
  • December 3260: Circuit Gold (Beta Circuit Fights)
  • September 3261: Winner of the inaugural King of the Mountain competition. (Division 1)
  • April 3263: Champion with MurderBots in the Inaugural Clan Tournament Champion (Division 1)

Recorded videoptics archives.- Subject: Live Interview with Justin Verret.
Date: September 30, 3317
Location: Zeon Headquarter barracks.

Mechanomicon.- Greetings Sir. Justin Verret is a name for so long heard in the chambers of LaSalle’s as a real legend among the more veteran mech pilots. Let me say is a truly honor to have the opportunity to interview you for the Mechanomicon readers and researchers.

Justin.- Always a pleasure to speak with a member of the press.

M. - Well, the Mechanomicon  is not just a news site, but an accurate encyclopedic project where any pilot could keep the memory of what happened into our Galaxy. So, let's start...
Where are you from, Sir, and how did you happen to become a mech pilot?

J. - I come from the neutral Colony World Terra Verde ("Green Earth"); I became a pilot because my home planet has an institutional draft of all citizens from the ages of eighteen to twenty two. Not everyone becomes a pilot, but we are required to serve in our military in exchange for free access to higher education.

M. - Due the difficulty to find a single warrior allowed to become a pilot correctly linked to the complex AI's, would be a miracle to find a place with a ratio of one pilot among a thousand yet. This is I believe what makes from you, the most experienced pilots, real treasures for the mercenary clans and factions.
Which one was your first clan as debutant pilot?

J. - The very first clan I joined once I was free from my service and able to go out on the mercenary market, as we know the clan structure today was notching, the clan is long gone, and soon gave way to Murderbots. Murderbots won the first two Galactic Interclan Tournaments, and was the first of the great Mercenary Clans. Speaking about the ratio of pilot candidates in the population, Terra Verde does have that sort of ratio, if slightly higher.

M. - Really, you were a member of the original and legendary MurderBots crew, the very first champion clan… Now that should not surprise us due your long time in service as one of the oldest elite pilots.
How could you define Murderbots?

J. - Murderbots as it was intended, was a dominant force in the game, drawing together the strongest commanders and pilots in the game for profit. We fought against the original Northwind Highlanders, and had a healthy rivalry with them. In that rivalry the seeds of respect and the future were sown.

M. - Do you miss those glorious times, now just whispered time to time for the elder or do you happen to keep alive the taste for fight with your current crew, the extraordinary Zeon?

J. - I have mostly retired now, I keep my hand in, and help those who ask, but the past is past. Zeon is incredible, and few people choose to remember just how well they've done. This is a clan that never ran minimum numbers in the wars; they hung together, always, and walked away with the win. The only clans to beat Zeon are CyberStorm, Fusion, and Isle of Misfit Toys.

M. - We know you are a Smilodon Pilot as that’s one became your Legendary Pilot totem… How do you think the sweet Smilodon has evolved after all this time?

J. - The Smilodon is vastly underpowered compared the much larger mechs. Within its own class it's quite powerful and one of a handful of mecha built around precision kills. I love the mecha, and wish that the Shogunate would unveil the larger version we were teased with ages ago.

M. - No doubt all the pilot family could love it.
And so, today, with as many other amazing war mechs to pilot… Which one has caught your eye?

J. - Well of course the Fext is the reigning king of the battlefield. While the Notos and Reaper see a lot of play, The revolutionary damage boosters on the Fext and current equipment allow you to make it a 100 ton mecha with the speed of the fastest 40 ton mecha and capable of doing truly amazing damage. The only downside to the Fext is that it's an expensive machine to equip and arm.

M. - Which are your favored capabilities on a mech when times come to include them into your squad?

J. - Crit-kill, freeze, and slow. Those three abilities are an unmatched combination. To be quite honest, that combination is why you see so many Boreas running around still, as they can run it quite well. The mecha only falls down on its speed.

M. -  A good attack is a good defense indeed. And what about your chosen tactics, do you have a favorite spec for war, any favorite for king of the mountain circuits?

J. - Well I have always liked the Open Format Kotm, as it shows the true power of a Commander. The big mecha are the lords of the battlefield, and only in the open format are you going to see them all really. It also has a special place with me as I won the first four of them in Division 1, back when we only had 3 divisions of play. Speaking on the KOTM, many of the formats for the war were the brainchild of myself, Jaime Beltran, and others. If you go back through the old Mechathalon events sponsored by ANN, you'll see that we ran the events there first before they became a standardized format. The Mechathalons actually predate KotM, there were three of them before we ran the first KotM. I ran the first and didn't compete, and won the second. The very first was won by Temu Xao, and he was the first pilot to earn the Nephilax mecha, I was the second.

M. - … Sun Tzu, a legendary war master wrote in the dark ages of the earth… “Know thy self, know thy enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories”… As a legend among legends, which one has been the hardest enemy you had to fight in your pilot career?
Do you have any especial mention?

J. - Jaime Beltran, not so much an enemy, but he and I are the eldest pilots in the Galaxy. He's a great friend, and had the longest reign as Galactic Champion bar none. my win/loss ratio versus him is probably the worst I have that I care about, as they're the results of me testing myself, and finding I still had much to learn.

M. -  (nods) And when talking about the menaces our galaxy had in the past...We have seen several times that the security of the Galaxy falls on the hands of our Mech mercenary Clans. Would you say that the Great Powers are not yet as great and that the real edge is by the Mercenary Clans? And what has been the most ravenous menace our galaxy was exposed to (not counting the current war against the Unification)

J. - The Mercenary clans wield the true power in the galaxy, not the other Great Powers. They might create the technology, but it is the Mercenary clans who wield it to greatest effect. We decide what to protect, whom to advance and fight for. It is something that still saddens me greatly that the Grand Galactic Senate has failed, but that is the reality of the Galaxy we face. I held hopes that these new threats to us all would give new life the Senate, and bring the entire human sphere under benevolent guidance, but this seems to not be what others wish for. So we continue as we have. The mercenary clans Fight for those who can pay, and the Great powers are left picking up the pieces of their shattered worlds.

M. -  Do you think the Droch’ah menace is yet ended or might we have to face again the never ending threat of the resilient Forerunner?
Perhaps... the shattered Chroniode could just have been a parenthesis for Droch'ah and while bringing lateral threats as the Unification.
Any insight about the matter through the Dr. Oki?

J. - I don't believe he's gone. We've killed him how many times now? He keeps creating temporal clones, so there's not likely an end to him. What concerns me most is this. Where are these armies coming from now that access to history is gone?

M. - The Unification? They have not apparent bounds with Droch'ah yet...
The past year 3316, we had for first time news about a parallel universe of existence; with a twin galaxy and small divergences where Xeon, counterpart of the Zeon clan that you belong, was close to completely dominate all other faction… Did Zeon has any interaction with that Xeon faction? As you belong to the great Zeon clan, what do you think about the pretension the outlander General Conover has in his pursuit to eradicate any sign of his very enemy Xeon.

J. - To my knowledge we had no direct interaction there. Conover learned an expensive lesson when he came after Zeon, thinking we were like our counterparts. I don't think he'll do so again, however if this occurs, we'll send him home just as we did before, with a colony drop Enema.

M. - Well, the Unification Army was repelled, but at a high price... Anyway, they seem not over yet and looking for your... (Laughs). Any expectation or any goal that you had in mind currently now?

J. - I don't have any long term goals other than to enjoy my semi-retirement amidst my Zeon clan mates.

M. -  Excellent, thanks a lot; and I hope you may keep enjoying your semiretirement as a legendary pilot as you deserves Sir.

Interview with Justin Verret (10698) by GJ (685605)

Unification

[History, Faction]

Hegemonic and single faction of an alternative Galaxy, close to our divergent but near timeline  (and the counterpart of Fusion), which brings together an Alliance of the free stellar governments and the surviving clans that coalesced to defeat the common threat of the all mighty enemy faction: Xeon. Unification defeated Xeon, but at a high price in which about half of the inhabited galactic nucleus got annihilated.

A Grand Council directs political control as supreme organ of Unification, and account supervision for the Unification Army, commanded by a victorious General Andrew Conover, hero against the Xeon threat, in charge of the Central Command Staff.

During the years 3316 and 3317, the Unification Army attempted to invade our Galaxy, using unstable gateways created after the Chroniode devices got destroy.

A extended hypothesis postulates that the Chroniode acted as a temporal and dimensional key in several dimensions of existence, and its destruction in 3315, after the defeat of the Forerunner Droch'ah caused a distortion in the nature of the reality, creating unstable and erratic gateways that Unification used to invade our Galaxy, in their pursuit of any Xeon remnant that they identified into the Zeon faction clan (the Xeon counterpart in our Galaxy).

A brief history of Xeon and Unification.

Recently declassified information indicates the existence of an alternative dimension in which the history would be like ours, but with some divergences.

In this Beta Galaxy, a clash between two largest military factions: Xeon (alternate version of Zeon) and ADF (alternate version of AFF), would collide in a war in which Xeon obtained a total victory, coming not only strengthened but hungry for total war.

Without further opposition Xeon began attacking and annexing smaller factions and even planets in a frantic race towards total domination of their Beta Galaxy. Of course, there was some resistance, but nothing could stand up to the Xeon's unstoppable advance.

There was no line that Xeon wasn't willing to cross over into their plan of global domination, even resorting to massive annihilation, destroying several of the largest cities through colony drops.

The other factions and states that had not yet fallen under the growing power of Xeon, learned the lesson and entrusted a joint army to be led by the major ally clan: Unification (counterpart of our Fusion clan in our galaxy) and one of their most capable military: General Andrew Conover (the incarnation of his counterpart in our galaxy, the Cdr. Andy Conover, Brotherhood and Fission staff officer).

A genocide war broke out between Xeon and the Unification Army, where more than half the beta galaxy settlements and inhabited planets got destroyed.

But General Conover had taken the pulse of Xeon, and although Xeon's forces seemed superior at first, the greatest talent of General Conover as strategist offered to Unification some capital victories, which he widely exploited to reverse the Unification weakness.

3315. The Doomsday.

When the situation was favorable to the plans of General Conover, he developed a trick sending different messengers carrying fake secret plans that, as expected, got intercepted by Xeon. In the plans it was ordered to concentrate all Unification forces in the Megiddo system, with the purpose to launch a strong blow to the enemy. Apparently Xeon got hooked and sent their entire fleet to annihilate the Unification Army.

But what Conover didn't count on was that Xeon developed the definitive weapon, hoping to make sure Unification wouldn't survive their victory if Xeon got defeat. By manipulating the existing Chroniode of their alternative reality, they created what they called "the Doomsday", the last weapon of definitive genocide.

When Xeon engaged in the simulacrum of Unification, in which real units were mixed with false ones to simulate a huge concentration of forces, they got surprised by the authentic Unification vanguard, reaching the Xeon Command Centre in the rear. Maybe this action anticipated the activation of the Doomsday, as suddenly, the whole stellar system disappeared from existence with the Chroniode, and the Gateways that the bulk of Unification forces were waiting to cross, became inert. This saved most of the Unification Army, while the crazy and genocide Xeon got defeated in a definitive and terribly expensive Unification victory.

3316. Transgalactic Invasion.

As the destruction of the Chroniode used to power the Doomsday created a fissure in the continuum time-space, opening erratic and unstable portals to other realities, Unification scientists saw those gates as a possible evasion way for the Xeon, and General Conover, persuaded that small Xeon cells had escaped their fate, sent out reconnaissance groups to track any Xeon evidence.

When Unification scouts reported the presence of the Zeon Faction in our galaxy, this was interpreted as a link to the gone Xeon, and General Conover planned invade our galaxy to complete the eradication of the Xeon curse.

Srixin, a key planet for the Hegemony as being a knot of confluence of gateways, was the main battleground for the most important battle between the Illyriam, asisted by the mercenary clans,  and the threat of the Unification Army.

So much was at stake and although that battle was won by the alliance Illyria and the Clans, by being able to reject back to its original galaxy to the invading forces, the losses were numerous, as to be considered a Pyrrhic victory.

3317. Second phase of the Transgalactic Invasion.

The calm didn't last long, and after the initial assault, the General Conover took the initiative to resume his attack, persuaded of the nefarious links of our galaxy with the enemy Xeon.

Scientists from Unification developed new devices that allowed to manipulate the fluctuation of the erratic gates to launch surgical attacks in the form of several spearheads throughout the galaxy and that took to the Clarke Federation like initial victim of this new Phase of the trans-galactic war.

    Vupa 6

    [Astronomy, Planetology]

Located on the outer edge of Cogwerk space, Vupa 6, also known as the Purple Planet, is a rocky planetoid continually surrounded by an insidious purple atmosphere and apparently without appreciable resources.
Initially, it was under control of the Illyrian Hegemony, perhaps as an outpost in front of the Cogwerk Society of Planets. However, given the uniqueness of the portal network, it is unlikely that this was its real purpose. The reasons for its current abandonment are unknown and constitutes a secret jealously guarded by the Illyrian authorities.

Nevertheless, rumors abound that Vupa 6's strange and poisonous purple atmosphere is able to seep through vacuum suits and cause severe neural damage, driving to those who breathe it or come into contact with it into madness.
At present, the planet serves as a haven for many pirates who use it as a base from which to launch incursions against non-military merchant transport and far enough away from the safe routes of the Illyrian Hegemony or the Cogwerk Society of Planets to avoid drawing too much attention from those authorities.

In 3325, it was discovered an alien species called as "Yoram" that has been hiding in Vupa 6 even before than the the foundation of the first human settlements. They are the responsible of the purple mist and the toxicity present in the atmosphere as a result of a long process of terraformation to make the planet breathable to them, and bringing the so called "Awakening".

    Forerunner

    [Biology]

Homo praecursor or homo prodromos (old earthen Latin "Forerunner")
Other names received in past: Annunaki, Nephilim.

    Type: Reptilian humanoid

Features: The only known living forerunner, Droch'ah´ oh-Thyehgr, shows an anthropomorphic anatomy with reptilian features.
Green eyes and a rough and scaly greenish yellow skin.
Cold blood, height and weight above the human average and a strong fortitude.
The forerunner seemed to have an extraordinary longevity equivalent to several human generations.
IQ: Known to be super genius, can count telepathy and mind control amongst his mental/psychic abilities. It is unknown if the forerunner has other psychic abilities but the possibilities exist.

    [History]

Although the knowledge we have about the Forerunner is limited, we can make an approach to his ancient foreign culture and history through the fragmentary documentation rescued along with some of his portentous technology.

Over a hundred thousand years ago, in an uncertain period between the Quaternary and the Prehistory of the ancient Earth, the Forerunner launched from their origin star system various colonial missions throughout the universe, reaching our galaxy aboard huge hyper speed starships.
    Droch'ah oh-Thyehgr, the last Forerunner
To facilitate travel and transport in the vast domains that civilization came to control, they developed a new technology based on a mineral with unique properties, the Niobium, from which they created the Niodes, super energy storage and memory improved in much to those who the Forerunner science already possessed and through which stepped further in its already super-advanced technology.

    Niode technology, a Niode Matrix
The Niode technology in many ways replaced the previous technology, rising to become a must for the Forerunner. Through Niode technology they created a vast system of dimensional portals or gateways, through which the most distant corners of their settlements were communicated almost instantly. Also, using the Niode matrices they perfected almost all their now obsolete technology, becoming dependent on Niobium deposits.

The Forerunner enjoyed a golden age, in which it is estimated they accelerate or modified the evolutionary process of many different species found in the colonized systems, creating new more evolved species used for various purposes. History scholars agree that modern man (Homo Sapiens) was the result of this geneticist manipulation, and that the purpose of the prolific humanity was to occupy a role of servitude to the Forerunner. Although if the mankind was created as we are in the Earth as our home world or if we came with the Forerunner to the Sun System, it is unclear.

While the Forerunner increased capabilities of early hominids (Homo Neanderthals) to create Homo Sapiens, the human intellect was much lower than the Forerunner (possibly in order to prevent the servile species turning against their masters), this is a reason why the human scientists have not yet unveiled all the mysteries behind the few rescued Forerunner artefacts.

To the men of that far past, the Forerunners had to be revered as Gods, and it has been suggested that they constituted the origin of the various mythologies and religions.

The decline of the Forerunner Civilization and the slow awakening of the Mankind.

The political system of the Forerunner was a tribal and decentralized model where different clans controlled different settlements, rather than a coordinated political model with a central power. This fact was of vital importance in the up and coming events.

After a long time prospecting the niobium, the super advanced Forerunner civilization found its greater vulnerability: the heavy dependence to the Niode technology and therefore a direct need to control the increasingly scarce deposits of niobium.

The shortage led to clashes between the various Forerunner colonies, clashes in human prehistory were reflected in our ancient mythology as the first clashes of the ancestral gods, such as in the Mahabharata in Hinduism or the Gigantomachy in the Greek mythology, where the Olympians were facing their Titans parents. A reflection of the cruel Forerunner wars to control the diminishing niobium deposits.

During the first clashes, the Forerunner used their science to create devastating arsenals and monstrous war machines, including the mech technology, in which the first mechs adopted shapes that mimicked some of the most violent organic species present in the worlds that they dominated.

Given the foreseeable stalemate in the War of niobium, it seems that most advanced Forerunner geneticists began at that time to develop biological weapons with which to attack selectively to other Forerunner settlements, housing viral pests in humans who acted as immune hosts but upon contact with the Forerunner organisms they wreaked havoc, however reducing material losses.
Initially, the Forerunner factions who created these pests had their own antibody vaccines with which sought to prevent themselves from falling prey to the ravenous bio weapons that they themselves had created, but the bacteriological and viral weapons developed their own mutations, becoming resistant to the measures that should have protected their creators.

In a decade, the Forerunner population had been decimated and after a century, virtually all this all-powerful civilization had disappeared from the galaxy consumed by its own venom.

With the disappearance of the Forerunner, humanity, hitherto captive, plummeted over a period of darkness, unable to handle the "divine" technology and experiencing a deep and catastrophic technological and social involution, and slowly, the memory of the Forerunner got vanished in the fog of times and the last of memories from them, became legend, superstition and religion.

Mankind had to reinvent itself, requiring almost two thousand years before rediscovering the niobium and another thousand before being able to emulate or learn how to use the Forerunner relics from the past bequeathed to humanity.

The rediscovery of the ancient gates of the Forerunner and Niodes allowing their use would give a new impulse to the mankind in their conquest of the galaxy. Similarly, poor control of a tiny fraction of the Forerunner technology, gave a great impulse to the science, changing forever the paradigm of the humanity.

At the present time, a single member of the Forerunner seems to have survived the fate of that progenitor race, thanks to the intervention of the Chroniode, a Forerunner relic of the past with the capability to travel through the time. It looks like just one of them, Droch'ah oh-Thyehgr is enough to endanger the whole of the humanity, threatening us with total domination, if not, perhaps, something worse.
