Type: Reptilian humanoid

Features: The only known living forerunner, Droch'ah´ oh-Thyehgr, shows an anthropomorphic anatomy with reptilian features.

Green eyes and a rough and scaly greenish yellow skin. 

Cold blood, height and weight above the human average and a strong fortitude.

The forerunner seemed to have an extraordinary longevity equivalent to several human generations.

IQ: Known to be super genius, can count telepathy and mind control amongst his mental/psychic abilities. It is unknown if the forerunner has other psychic abilities but the possibilities exist.

[History]

Although the knowledge we have about the Forerunner is limited, we can make an approach to his ancient foreign culture and history through the fragmentary documentation rescued along with some of his portentous technology.

Over a hundred thousand years ago, in an uncertain period between the Quaternary and the Prehistory of the ancient Earth, the Forerunner launched from their origin star system various colonial missions throughout the universe, reaching our galaxy aboard huge hyper speed starships.

To facilitate travel and transport in the vast domains that civilization came to control, they developed a new technology based on a mineral with unique properties, the Niobium, from which they created the Niodes, super energy storage and memory improved in much to those who the Forerunner science already possessed and through which stepped further in its already super-advanced technology.

Niode technology, a Niode Matrix

The Niode technology in many ways replaced the previous technology, rising to become a must for the Forerunner. Through Niode technology they created a vast system of dimensional portals or gateways, through which the most distant corners of their settlements were communicated almost instantly. Also, using the Niode matrices they perfected almost all their now obsolete technology, becoming dependent on Niobium deposits.

The Forerunner enjoyed a golden age, in which it is estimated they accelerate or modified the evolutionary process of many different species found in the colonized systems, creating new more evolved species used for various purposes. History scholars agree that modern man (Homo Sapiens) was the result of this geneticist manipulation, and that the purpose of the prolific humanity was to occupy a role of servitude to the Forerunner. Although if the mankind was created as we are in the Earth as our home world or if we came with the Forerunner to the Sun System, it is unclear.

While the Forerunner increased capabilities of early hominids (Homo Neanderthals) to create Homo Sapiens, the human intellect was much lower than the Forerunner (possibly in order to prevent the servile species turning against their masters), this is a reason why the human scientists have not yet unveiled all the mysteries behind the few rescued Forerunner artefacts.

To the men of that far past, the Forerunners had to be revered as Gods, and it has been suggested that they constituted the origin of the various mythologies and religions.

The decline of the Forerunner Civilization and the slow awakening of the Mankind.

The political system of the Forerunner was a tribal and decentralized model where different clans controlled different settlements, rather than a coordinated political model with a central power. This fact was of vital importance in the up and coming events.

After a long time prospecting the niobium, the super advanced Forerunner civilization found its greater vulnerability: the heavy dependence to the Niode technology and therefore a direct need to control the increasingly scarce deposits of niobium.

The shortage led to clashes between the various Forerunner colonies, clashes in human prehistory were reflected in our ancient mythology as the first clashes of the ancestral gods, such as in the Mahabharata in Hinduism or the Gigantomachy in the Greek mythology, where the Olympians were facing their Titans parents. A reflection of the cruel Forerunner wars to control the diminishing niobium deposits.

During the first clashes, the Forerunner used their science to create devastating arsenals and monstrous war machines, including the mech technology, in which the first mechs adopted shapes that mimicked some of the most violent organic species present in the worlds that they dominated.

Given the foreseeable stalemate in the War of niobium, it seems that most advanced Forerunner geneticists began at that time to develop biological weapons with which to attack selectively to other Forerunner settlements, housing viral pests in humans who acted as immune hosts but upon contact with the Forerunner organisms they wreaked havoc, however reducing material losses.

Initially, the Forerunner factions who created these pests had their own antibody vaccines with which sought to prevent themselves from falling prey to the ravenous bio weapons that they themselves had created, but the bacteriological and viral weapons developed their own mutations, becoming resistant to the measures that should have protected their creators.

In a decade, the Forerunner population had been decimated and after a century, virtually all this all-powerful civilization had disappeared from the galaxy consumed by its own venom.

With the disappearance of the Forerunner, humanity, hitherto captive, plummeted over a period of darkness, unable to handle the "divine" technology and experiencing a deep and catastrophic technological and social involution, and slowly, the memory of the Forerunner got vanished in the fog of times and the last of memories from them, became legend, superstition and religion.

Mankind had to reinvent itself, requiring almost two thousand years before rediscovering the niobium and another thousand before being able to emulate or learn how to use the Forerunner relics from the past bequeathed to humanity.

The rediscovery of the ancient gates of the Forerunner and Niodes allowing their use would give a new impulse to the mankind in their conquest of the galaxy. Similarly, poor control of a tiny fraction of the Forerunner technology, gave a great impulse to the science, changing forever the paradigm of the humanity.

At the present time, a single member of the Forerunner seems to have survived the fate of that progenitor race, thanks to the intervention of the Chroniode, a Forerunner relic of the past with the capability to travel through the time. It looks like just one of them, Droch'ah oh-Thyehgr is enough to endanger the whole of the humanity, threatening us with total domination, if not, perhaps, something worse.
