Metaverse Zero

[History, Quantum Physic, Metaphysic]

The Metaverse is a dimension out of our own time line, in which the curse of history has been different, caused by the absence of the Fate-Changing Forerunner Droch'ah, until his sudden apparition in 3323, menacing an undefended "Meta-Galaxy" were before, there were no reason that made the Mercenary Clans to be created. In the summertime of 3323, the Craftsmen from the Metaverse oppened a Gateway in seek of help from our Galaxy.
A Guard Mech class stalks before the Great Gate to the Metaverse
The Anomaly

In the summer of 3323 a disturbance was detected in Tremulus (Pirate Moon), being the cause of diverse phenomena that disturbed the use of the Gateway in that corner of the Cogwerk space.

Door to the Unknown

After some months, the irregular bulb of energy had hatched in the form of a Gateway, the largest known, even larger than any other Forerunner had planted our galaxy, whose envelope had a hexagonal shape of nearly 25 meters in diameter and one Surface in the passing veil whose surface presented a swirling turbulence of concave spherical spiral with a dark crimson coloration and streaks of violet smoke, unlike the usual silver color of our Gateway.

The Contact

After several exploration drones were sent, the Craftsmen announced shocking news after reaching their counterparts on the other side:

Metaverse is an alternate timeline where mercenary clans have never existed because Droch´ah had never before posed a threat to them, until 2332, when the Forerunner made a temporary jump in the Metaverse, ready to enslave the mankind and resurrect the Forerunner race.

As son as the terrible menace was detected, the Meta-Craftsmen opened various gates to different alternative time lines in the hope to contact any available help, contacting our dimension through their counterparts.

Beyond Courage and Fear

In order to travel to this time line to fight the Meta-Droch'ah menace and his Meta-League of Ages, only the psyche of the pilots can enter since no matter can travel physically through the barrier that separates the time lines.

The Craftsmen on the other side prepared clones that would receive as host the experienced pilots, who would lose some of their memories and memory, but who were expected to maintain intact qualities such as mental patterns capable of successfully verifying a connection with the AIs of the Mechs of that universe as well as evolve rapidly and become elite riders again at a time well above the local riders. Also, they would have scarce initial resources, provided by the Craftsmen on the other side, but once again, it is estimated that the capabilities of the pilots will allow them to break through and assemble a strong contingent capable of opposing the power of the Forerunner and its League of the ages.

Campaign in the Unknown (September 3323)

The Craftsmen from the Galaxy and those from the Metaverse promised great rewards to the Mercenary venturing in their support, and many offered volunteer, even without rewards, for the sake of have another opportunity to defeat Droch'ah one more time.

The Dragon CIC Scott Abbott and one of his commanding officers, Cmdr. Joshua Bourne, took the lead of the mercenary forces during the trials of the first expedition on the Metaverse, also known as "Metaverse Zero".

After the Mercenary clans sent several elite pilots through the unknown, in the aim to help the Metaverse against the Forerunner menace of their "meta-Droch'ah", the expeditionary forces noticed a great instability, being forced to retreat until the "Meta-Craftsmen" could open a new and more stable Gateway, that was known as "Metaverse One".

Metaverse Zero

There were two attempts to prepare the necessary defense force, the first one got disturbed by Droch'ah´s viral attacks to the IA's controlling the Gate opened by the Metaverse Craftsmen. This first attempt is also known as Metaverse Zero.

Those pilots successful in the challenges during Metaverse Zero war preparative, were granted with a Guardian Mech by the Craftsmen.

The following pilots qualified to receive 2 Guardian Mechs:

Curiosities on Metaverse Zero.

1. League of Ages Hacking

Something never seen before was the ability that Droch'ah's agents proved, by being able to disturb the signal oppened by the Gateway created by the Craftsmen from the Metaverse, in their search of help from our dimension. To counter this viral perturbation, the Craftsmen were forced to shut down the gateway and try to generate a new one, opening the "Metaverse One".

This need to retreat biased the preparations and made some pilots returning to rest and be ready for the incoming Metaverse One trial.

2. Confusion on KotMs

In the Inaugural KotM celebrated to train the pilots who joined the defense of the Metaverse, only two pilots joined Division One, while for some miss conception and lack of advice from the meta-Craftsmen organization, above 300 pilots joined the Second Division.

Anecdotal, those on First Division developed a slow training, while the Second Division allowed a brutal progress, with pilots reaching above the double of the training on those on Div One.

Pirate Moon Anomaly

[History, Quantum Physic]

The Anomaly

In the summer of 3323 a disturbance in the Lisi energy fields on the surface of Tremulus (the Pirate Moon) was detected, being the cause of diverse phenomena that disturbed the use of the Gateway of that area.
The anomaly had the appearance of an irregular force field in the form of a pseudo-spherical bulb of crimson energy and oscillating size, reaching a few meters in diameter and with qualities similar to those of the Lisi fields generated by a Gateway.

The Research

Scientists from the Craftsmen, ChronoPower and all the Major and Minor Powers have gathered to study the disturbance.

ChronoPower´s founder, Harlan “Half-Baked” Harrison assured that the energy field surrounding the anomaly had not traces of the frequencies and other common signatures used Unification or Xeon, as wasn't either generated by any Chroniode.

The major Powers formed a Joint Task Force to provide security in case the anomaly supposed a menace to the galaxy. The leadership of this initiative was given to General Nova.

Door to the Unknown

Towards the end of the summer, ChronoPower reported a change in the anomaly: The object underwent a remarkable transformation.

The irregular bulb of energy had hatched in the form of a Gateway, the largest known, even larger than any other Forerunner had planted our galaxy, whose envelope had a hexagonal shape of nearly 25 meters in diameter and one Surface in the passing veil whose surface presented a swirling turbulence of concave spherical spiral with a dark crimson colorization and streaks of violet smoke, unlike the usual silver color of our Gateway.

The Craftsmen Report

The Craftsmen reported that the anomaly was created by an alternate reality seeking for help in different realities to counter a terrible and sudden menace in their space time.

The Metaverse is an alternate timeline in which the Forerunner Droch'ah never returned until 3323. This lack of the Great Enemy supposed that the Mercenary Clans were never created. Now, the Forerunner has suddenly appeared, jumping from the past with his Chroniode and bringing the League of Ages to conquest the mankind of Metaverse.

Xeon

[History, War, Galactic Threat]

Introduction

Xeon, [pronounced “ex-ay-on"], also known as the "Endbringers", "Star Killers" and "Assassins", is a massive and mighty Clan of the Outer Dimension that has been close to conquer their whole known galaxy by means of terror and a unstoppable power. Besides the own Droch'ah, there hasn't been known any other greater menace for both dimensions,

History

Clan Xeon was one of the prominent military factions in the parallel dimensión. They managed to effectively destroy their Droch'ah parallel incarnation and later, engaged in a long war to the largest factions, the ADF (alternate version of AFF), achieving a biter victory in which they started a tactic of burned systems, destroying all in their path as if Xeon were a cosmic unstoppable plague.

When the remnant powers in the parallel dimension realized the genocide that Xeon was committing in their bloodthirsty and destructive path of conquest, an Alliance was created joining their remnant forces with the only one free clan strong enough to oppose them: Unification (counterpart of the mythical clan Fusion)

Xeon possessed Drochah's Chroniode, an artifact that the master of Xeon's scientific team, Dr. Okee, had the time to study, finding a practice applications in the development of a secret weapon that he called Starkiller. This weapon used a launcher device, in which a manipulated Nakshi was able to perform hyperlight leaps to reach in a short time the flaming atmosphere of the local system star, in which it produced an explosion so powerful as to induce acceleration of the aging process of the star, accelerating its entry into Nova phase and therefore, completely destroying the system

In the cruel war declared between the two contenders, Xeon for total domination at any price, and Unification, for the survival of the free world, victory was decided by Unification, but at a high cost, not only military casualties, but also of millions of civilians, trapped in the worlds that Xeon destroyed in their frightful advance.

During the 3200s, Xeon suffered important defeates, being forced to flee and hide into the uncharted sectors of the parallel dimension, where Unification couldn't find the remnants of Xeon to conclude the purge.

During this impasse, approaching on 3321, Dr. Okee became the Xeon´s CIC (what made the former Xeon leader to resign is unknown, while could be argued Dr. Okee was behind his own promotion).

Dr. Okee, Master of Assassins
The campaign of 3320 in which the Unification suffered an important defeat under the assault of the Mercenary Clans to destroy the Unification´s Dimensional Gate Generator, gave a new hope to Xeon, who returned from their exile in the deep fringes on 3323, renewing their campaign of destruction.

3322. Until this year, Xeon was not well known by our Galaxy, and Zeon started a research to locate and determinate the true nature of Xeon, in the Outer Dimension. After detect an intensive research from forces in their parallel world, they sent a huge force to learn from us our degree of menace as to quantify our capacities. They infiltrated after arrangement, the AFF units (whose counterpart they have been destroyed in their rise) and participated into the Clan Tournaments, the Clan Wars, where while most of their hybridized units got defeated, they achieved victory only in the fifth division, but also the opportunity to calibrate our forces and reach the believing that our galaxy belonged to Droch'ah once they detected the taunt of the Forerunner technology employed by most of our Mechs and multiple devices.

By this time, not many suspected the terrible truth behind Xeon and General Nova within the Clan Zeon, redoubled cautions, sending Researching missions to the Other Dimension to track Xeon activity.

3323. After the weakening and starvation of Unification, Xeon returned to activity in the Other Dimension, aiming to conquer the repaired Portal Generators under Unification control. Our surveillors warned to General Nova as soon as the true nature of Xeon was detected: they didn't exited to destroy a whole system after suffer a defeat, sending the system's sun in Nova and destroying its entire population.

The message was then clear for our Dimension: Unification was always right, unless in the relations between Xeon and our Dimension, but Xeon had to be eradicated.

Warned, the Mercenary Clans who in 3315, 3316 and 3320 fought Unification, understood now the need to destroy Xeon, after witness the genocide tactics developed by the Assassins.

In Jule 3323, the last wave of Xeon was destroyed and their few remnants within Dr. Okee, retired again into the deeps of the uncharted areas of their parallel dimension's galaxy.

Dr. Okee

[History, Personalities]

Dr. Okee, also know as 'Starkiller', 'Okee the Genocide' and self proclaimed 'Master of Assasins'. He is an out lander from the Parallel Dimension and Leader of the Xeon faction since 3321 (counterpart and evil mirrored twin of Dr. Oki and the Zeon mercenary clan from which he is leader).

A Genius Incarnation of Pure Evilness

Dr. Okee is a genius who has achieved mastery in numerous scientific and technical disciplines. As an astronautic and Mech-technology engineer, he has developed a new machine of terror: the Star killer, a device that is able to launch at hyperlight speed a modified piloted Nakshi towards the systems' star, making it enter the Nova phase, with the subsequent destruction of all the planets in that system. Since its creation, this device has caused the destruction of dozens of world-systems.

This dark creation led him to claim himself as the Master of Assassins when he raised to the highest rank among the Xeons, succeeding as new Commander in Chief to Johan Q. Fender.

Personality and Psyche of a Genocide

Dr. Okee's personality has been described by analytical psychologists as that of an obsessive compulsive egotistical person whose messianic syndrome reaches one of the highest known levels, just below that of the Forerunner Droch'ah. The main flaws shown in the Dr. Okee's personality are:

Obsessive Paranoia

Having completed his personal crusade against Droch'ah, he  seems to believe that the whole universe has been touched by the corrupting hand of the Forerunner, so he may very well believe that the taunted world is to be purified in the blazing flames of a thousand suns.

Egolatry and Messiah Complex

He firmly believes that his mission is to save the world from the corrupting influence of the Forerunner, through of destructive purification, as a fighting messiah instead of a messiah who sacrifices himself for the salvation of mankind. Okee considers himself to be the savior of his people, bearer of his ideals and hopes, and the only one capable of fulfilling them, even if he has to drag the universe to its destruction.

Obsession with Power

Power is extremely important to Okee. The creation of organizations like the Assassins to maintain the population's obedience and the elimination of dissidents are proof of this. In the same way it can be observed in its expansionist policy, invading most than half of his galaxy and trying to vanquish his whole known world.

Contempt for Weakness

Associated with the previous trait we find the presence of a contempt for weakness. This contempt for those he considered inferior can be observed in his actions and the systematic elimination of those who at the time were considered weak, such as population opposed to Xeon and the intellectual incapacity of others to accept his doctrine anti-Forerunner.

Perseverance

The different records and communications seem to indicate that Okee is especially stubborn and obsessed in regard to his aims, and it is hard for him to admit defeat.

Charisma and ability to Manipulate

One of Okee's most well-known facets of personality is his high capacity for charisma. The Xeonite dictator awakened passions among his troops and among the masses, as can be seen in his speeches and the staunch behavior and loyalty to his figure by most of his troops (who are ready even to suicide themselves in the use of the star killer device). He also emphasizes his ability to convince and manipulate the individuals of his posture and the veracity of his words.

Absence of Empathy

The lack of capacity to identify with the subjugated peoples and the adoption of various plans for indiscriminate and systematic extermination show a complete lack of empathy.

Xeon's Banner
Known History

Dr. Okee was recruited by the Xeon clan in the parallel dimension due his several scientist and engineering masters, being for most of the Xeon-s time their master Engineer.

During the long campaign against Unification, once Droch´ah and the AFF were defeated,  and the remnant powers of their galaxy allied under the Unification-s banner, he devised and developed the definitive weapon, a manned hyperlight-speed device that accomplished to a modified Nakshi, could be launched towards a Sun, causing it enter in Nova phase and so, destroying the whole system. This creation made him automatically raise his rank as the Second Commander in charge of the Xeon Assassins, the elite of their army.

In 3300, Xeon suffered important defeats, being forced to flee and hide into the uncharted sectors of the parallel dimension, where Unification couldn't find the remnants of Xeon to conclude the purge.

During this impasse, approached 3319, Dr. Okee became the Xeon´s CIC (the causes that made the former Xeon leader to resign and ever to disappear are unknown, while could be argued that Dr. Okee was behind his own promotion).

The campaign of 3320 in which the Unification suffered an important defeat under the assault of the Mercenary Clans to destroy their Dimensional Gateways Generator, gave a new hope to Xeon, who returned on 3323 from their exile in the deep fringes, renewing their campaign of destruction.

The Major Powers of our galaxy realized the true nature of Xeon, and launched a massive successful counterattack during the months of June and Jule of 3323, destroying the Xeon's offensives and frustrating their plans to capture the Gate Generator Plants from Unification.

Tremulus

[Planetology, Astronomy]

Tremulus, better known as the Pirate Moon, is a satellite orbiting Deneb Alpha, a gaseous planet on the System XH-239, located in the cross-section of the star-cloud that lies between the Cogwerk and the Shogunate space.
Brief History

Due its strategical situation, Tremulus is being used as a valuable outpost in the continual struggle and skirmishes of both Major Powers, but also has received the attention of several pirate gangs, using the moon to hide their bounties or as hideout.

The pirate warlord Kilgore
After the Shogunate Civil War in 3307 one of its regions, Sengakuji Reaches, split out and raised as an independent Minor Power that soon started to extend its influence towards the area, looking forward to secure Pirate Moon to keep safety for their trading convoys. In this regard, Sengakuji Reaches has made many contracts with different Mercenary Clans to assist them in military and protective operations to secure their growing area of influence.

Despite the operations of the Society of Cogwerk Planets, the Shogunate or Sengakuji Reaches, some daring pirates as the infamous Killgore still operating and using this moon as their more reliable base of operations.

The Pirate Moon is frequently the first assignment given by General Nova to the cadet pilots and the appointed mercenary pilots, in their duty to keep the safety of the Cogwerk space.

St. Lyssa's Day

[Anniversaries, Calendar]

June 23
Every June 23, the matron saint of Mech pilots, St. Lyssa of Farrow is celebrated.

Saint Lyssa was a nun belonging to the Carmelite Order, and is the matron saint of the Great Byzantine Church of the New Suns and also adopted as protector of the Mech pilots.

The saint's token-medals are popular, both among pilots devoted to the faith of the Byzantine church and among non-believers, who take them as real good luck charms.

Order of the Carmelites

[Calendar, History, Religion]

The Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel (in Classic Latin "Ordo Fratrum Beatissimæ Virginis Mariæ" of Mount Carmel), also called Order of the Carmelites, is a Catholic religious congregation and arose in Old Terra (in the Crusader States) around Century XII, when a group of hermits, Inspired by the prophet Elijah, retired to live on Mount Carmel, considered the garden of Palestine; In fact "Karm-El" means "the vineyard of God" in the Semitic languages of the area.
Coat of arms of the Carmelite order (simple).svg
Motto: "ZEL ZELATUS SUM PRO DOMINO DEO EXERCITUUM" ("I consume zeal for the Lord, God of Armies").

In the middle of the cells they built a church, which they dedicated to their patroness, the Virgin Mary, whom they venerate as Our Lady of Mount Carmel. They took the name "Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel".

In 1209, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Albert, gave them a code, which summarizes the ideal of Carmelites: contemplative life, meditation on Sacred Scripture and work.

In 2291 the Order split, and several members joined the reformed Great Byzantine Church of the New Suns, founded to give spiritual support to the settlers in their spread through the galaxy.

In 3104, a squadron of Mech pilots requested shelter in a Carmelite monastery in Beta-Gemini, after a hard combat against pirates that ravaged the zone. The devotion and pious concentration of the monks, inspired the pilots, who in gratefulness for their courageous action, also received tokens of St. Lyssa of Farrow. The pilots returned to the combat with redoubled minds and great concentration until they eradicated the bandits.

This fact started a growing tradition among many Mech pilots towards St. Lyssa, and their medal is well received by both pilots believers and those who profess other religions or who are even atheists.

Speed

[Mech Technology]

The Speed determines how quickly the Mech will fire its weapons at the enemy Mech.

Although the details of all speed constraints are carefully kept by the confrères and various companies of Mech engineers and technicians, the basic theory is known, even superficially.

The following factors intervene in the greater or lesser speed of combat of a Mech, of which, the majority are cumulative:

  • Mech Build Speed. This is the basical speed factor.
  • Equipment Speed bonus. Usually acquired through the engines. It is directly added to the basical speed factor.
  • Weapon Speed Factor. Directly added to the total Mech speed cactor.
  • Slow applied by the enemy Mechs. This lowers the Mech speed factor in the same quantity of applied Slow effect.
  • Number of weapons. Each operative weapon loaded in the Mech, will trigger a different initiative chance (so the higher amount of weapons, the faster the Mech could shot each weapon).
  • Chaos factor in kinetic inversion of shot. This is a variable that responds to many factors (pilot reflex speed, transmission efficiency of the AI and Mech actuators, atmospheric conditions, distance to the target and others).

Wide Fork

[Mech Technology]

Wide Fork is the ability of some weapons to spray or spread a volley or grappling blast to all the front enemy units. Some missile weapons can deliver this effect.

Technical description

A weapon with the Wide Fork effect will deal full damage to all the enemy Mechs placed on the enemy front line (the current one engaged in combat) if such Mechs exists.

For example, if a weapon with Wide Fork hits a Mech in the center slot for 50 damage, the whole Mechs in the same line (if they exist) will receive a full 50 damage.

Wild

[Mech Technology]

Certain weapons, in particular missiles, have a targeting finder, which allows to launch them without aiming towards an specific enemy, being the projectile guided by its own search system to finally reach a random enemy between those closest.

Technical description

A weapon with the Wild effect will target a random Mech on the enemy front line.

This effect can be either an advantage or a flaw, depending the odds of the enemy Mechs targeted.

This effect is only attached in a few weapons.

Skill Shield

[Mech Technology]

A mech with a Skill Shield will take less damage from that Skill attacks.

Available Skill Shields are:
  • Fork Shield: A Mech with a Fork Shield will take less damage from Forked attacks. For example, if a mech with Wide Fork Shield 80% would have taken 100 points of Fork damage (because the mech next to it got hit for 100 damage) the Mech will take 80 less damage than it would have.
  • Splash Shield: A Mech with a Splash Shield will take less damage from splashed damage. For example, if a mech with Splash Shield 50% would have taken 100 points of Splash damage (because the mech next to it got hit for 100 damage) the Mech will take 50 less damage than it would have.
  • Trample Shield: If a Mech with Trample Shield 80% would have taken 10 points of Trample damage, that Mech will take 8 less damage than it would have, for a total of 2 damage.
  • Wide Fork Shield: A Mech with a Wide Fork Shield will take less damage from Wide Forked attacks. For example, if a mech with Wide Fork Shield 80% would have taken 100 points of Fork damage (because the mech next to it got hit for 100 damage) the Mech will take 80 less damage than it would have. This shield only protects the equipped Mech, so in order that each Mech in the Wide Forked line got the Wide Fork damage reduced, each one will require to have this protective skill.

Trample

[Mech Technology]

Trample is the ability of a weapon to roll over the enemy's Mech, surpassing its defensive line and causing damage to other units in its rear.

Technical description

A weapon with the Trample effect will deal additional damage to the Mech behind the target Mech on a successful hit.

For example, if a Mech/weapon with Trample 20% hits a Mech in the center slot for 50 damage, the next Mech behind in the center slot will take an additional 10 damage (before it enters the front line)

This skill can be available through:
  • Mech build skills-tree
  • Equipment
  • Weapons

(By Mechanomicon)

Splash

[Mech Technology]

The splash effect is caused by spray, jet or rain-type attacks that span a wide fan-shaped area that allows damage to those enemies near the flanks of the target.

Technical Description

A Mech/weapon with the Splash Damage effect will deal damage to additional enemy Mechs immediately above and below the target Mech. Damage is a percent of the total done to the initial target.

For example, if a weapon with 10% splash hits a Mech in the center slot for 50 damage, the Mechs above and below the initial target (if they exist) will each take an additional 5 damage.
