Mech

[Technology]

A Mech or "Mecha" is a giant combat robot controlled by a human pilot.

The Word Mech or Mecha is an abbreviation of the word "mechanized" and encompasses all mechanical robotic vehicles designed with military goals, combining the tank's resilience, a greater firepower, the infantry's ability to cross unstable terrain and a high degree of customization.
The first Mech built for a military purpose in the mankind era was the Red Ant. This first Mech was developed by the Radix Tribe and introduced by the Illyrian Hegemony in the year 3087 during the "Battle of the Markets", in which a force of Red Ants swept a strong but conventional army of tanks and infantry led by a pirate warlord. The introduction of this first Mech in combat is considered as the birth of the modern age of mechanized warfare.

Mechs come in a great variety of sizes and shapes, but they distinguish themselves from other mechanical vehicles by their humanoid or biomorphic appearance and characteristics. Some Mechs resemble dinosaurs and other animals, as an evolution from projects looking to profit from some of the most successful organisms within of the Galaxy.

Usually, Mechs are much larger than the wearer, possessing a complex structure that can be described by the following parts:
  • Cockpit: Armoured cabin from where a Mech is piloted.
  • Chassis: Main structure that, like the human skeleton, carries all other elements and gives the shape to the mech.
  • Engine: Energy plant that gives autonomous propulsion to the mech.
  • Shielding: The plates and standard shields offering protection against external menaces.
  • Weaponry Systems: The collection of weapons loaded into the Mech.
