Bernard Johnson

[Renowned Pilot]

Juggernaut Mech pilot - Pilot license number: 922277.

The long years of hard, intense and eternal battles sometimes charge an expensive bill to the Mech pilots. For Bernard Johnson, a former elite and veteran Mech pilot in the mercenary clan Death's Collectors (AFF) and current member of the legendary clan Juggernaut (formerly known as Fusion), the side effects impacted him somehow by disassociating his personality with some Schizophrenic issue. As a result, he now keeps two personalities, recalling the vintage but always classic characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide,

When the personality of Jekyll or Hide takes control, it is sometimes very convenient for him, since the most skilled usually dominate the situation he had to face, and both personalities are keen in their respective abilities.

Whether Dr. Jekyll, with cold and sharp analytical skills, or Mr. Hide, with his uncontainable fury, whoever takes control of Bernard's psyche, he is a deadly pilot in both cases. Banned by the authorities of many different systems as of the bars of the half galaxy, being Cogwerk Port one of the few places that maintains admission because of its reputation in the Mecha Games and the impressive amount of Gold Medals with which he has been awarded through the Tournaments and the King of the Mountain Circuits.

In his own words, "I have some sever personality issues; but as a tactical combatant; it has proved to more a strength than a liability. I can spend the down time planning  carefully, then in combat I can simply allow myself 'off-the-hook' if you will; and it seems to work well".

Mechanomicon - We are proud to meet a veteran and quite skilled pilot, who for long time was one of the deadlier guns among the elite Affiliation unit Death Collectors, and now fight under the mighty Juggernaut Banner

Greetings Bernard. Would you tell us something from your origins and your first steps as Mech pilot?

Bernard Johnson - I hail from Cogwork, the armpit of the galaxy. I always thought I was the weird one until I left in my teens and found out everyone in my home system was starkers, not so much me. Though I do tend to remain quite 'eccentric' by galactic standards. I first got into Mechs as a repairman on the Fight circuit. Worked my way up in a few years to a crew manager and fell in love with the newest (back then) 100 ton gleaming black Fext.

I knew I had to sit in the cockpit of one of those monsters someday. Started talking to competition pilots, taking small Mechs on test run. Found I was a half decent pilot, but still better at outfitting and planing than piloting myself. Still, I finally scrapped up enough for a couple second hand Ants and got started. Did pretty well with long term planning and resource use and built from there.

M.- Why did you chose to join the mercenary clans and which one has been your first clan?

B.J.- At first I didn't want to join a clan. I didn't really trust anyone else to hold up their side of an ongoing conflict. But I began to see I wasn't strong enough on my own and the rewards appeared to be great than the risk; I finally started looking around for "potential suitors". I turned down the first few as it was clear that I was being targeted by others in the same place as me; and while that is OK, I wanted to join a clan that had some success and stronger membership for me to learn from. The Overlords came calling and I joined them. Had a couple of silvers down in lower levels, but then our leader quit and I decided to go looking again. Sent out some feelers and got hooked by Rob of the Affiliation (AFF). Found a home there for long time!

M.- What AFF units did you join and what have you been learning among them?

B.J.- Well, I started with Death's Disciples and after getting a few wars under my belt I was moved up to Death's Collectors and until recently, that had been my home for a long time. Worked my way up there until I had a strong fleet of well equipped Mechs and after the last war against Unification with the small gateways, realized that I was carrying more than my share of the load. That was OK except that I found that I was progressing faster than those around me and since the AFF had found it's niche in the clan 'pecking order' if you will; I might need to find a new home if I was to achieve my full potential...

(A sudden voice seemingly a disturbance thunders the transmission):

- AS A MECH GOD!!

(cough) Sorry about that, split personality syndrome is very common on Cogwerk. I assume its genetic or environmental... maybe it's both now.

At any rate, I learned a lot about formations, group dynamics and sharing salvage for the good of the unit. Not as fond of the last but I get it...

- MINE, ALL MINE! ALL YOUR LOOT BELONGS TO ME!!

(uncomfortable pause)

M.- Through the time, what clans and what Pilots have been your nemesis, or your closer opponents?

B.J.- Well, frankly you. And Sten Miller of Star League. For the longest time, it seems, it was always one of you that was wrangling with me for the top spots in circuit fights and KotM events. I rather got sick of seeing you both! As for clans, Had our struggles with Black Star back in the day, but mostly no real challenge when the Death Collectors were in division 3 & 4 until the rise of the Dragons started rising up through the ranks. I was off to the Misfits before the real issues over the last 2 months arose.

M.- (Laughs) well Sir, you worked hard and have been improving your Squad heavily.

B.J.- Thanks for noticing...

- AAHH! WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK! I HATE ALL OF YOU; ALL OF YOU!!

... And Division One; well it's worse than ever. There are no breaks, no down time; just never ending escalation of one-upsmanship, now that Fusion has 'fissioned'.

M.- Talking about Dragons... How did you feel when the AFF Split in two factions, giving Life to Dragons?

B.J.- I wasn't aware of what exactly occurred with the AFF & Dragons, so I can really speak to that. As for Division one vs. the lower divisions: there appears to be some major stratification. There is a fairly steady growth/learning curve until division 1 and then...you slam into the wall.

M.- First division... In your opinion, Sir, what are the differences between middle, high and the top divisions?

B.J.- Up to division 2, folks are generally keeping in line with their clan and the clans around them in their builds and strategy; so as not to rock the boat or throw their clan mates under a bus by moving in division weight. Once you get into Division 1...all bets are off. It's non-stop leveling, growth and conflict. You can't ever really catch the top 20 pilots; they're too far ahead. They have accumulated enormous bonus' over the years and unless they spend a year deceased for tax purposes; no one can ever really catch up and compete on a level playing field; there isn't enough time/money that can make up for what they have accomplished and accumulated. So the only choice is to find a niche where many are weak and exploit that as best you can.

- GA AAH GET 'EM! KICK 'EM IN THE HEAD! KICK 'EM IN THE KNEE! KICK 'EM IN THE JUNK!!

Oh, yeah; Division one has really made this Split Personality Disorder waaaaay worse...

M.- Pick your three favourite Mechs and tell us why would you chose them

B.J.- The Fext for sure. Been my point Mech ever since I got my first. Now I have 5. The Humbaba is a recent favorite; so fast for a BFM! My front line Humbaba has a speed of +106! Load that sucker up with Predator missiles and watch you opponent's lines wilt! A third would be the Notos. Love the fire mechanics. Get a good hit with trample and splash and ignite whole clumps of Mechs. They burn and die even when the Notos has been knocked out of the fight! (Still reserving judgment on the Pike. I like the flexibility, but not having any specializations means its always second or third best at anything.)

M.- From all the Mech capabilities, what are your favourite?

B.J.- Dodge. Can't replace it, can't replicate it: can't get enough of it. It only comes in a few mech specs; so you only get it through your Mech's chassis slots. (except for a couple of Vortex specials; which are just luck) Precision, speed, dodge and damage multipliers are all important to, but dodge only comes from the Mech and/or chassis slots. Faster weapons won't get it, damage bonus' won't make it, speed to first shot is great but if you can't doge...you're dead meat. And there's only one way to get it. So up to level 135-150ish; the Mechs with the best are Antithesis and Boreas because of their innate abilities; but beyond that, you need the continued upgradability that only the biggest, baddest Niode Mechs can provide and it especially means Chassis slots for more dodge. That's why the Slate has now replaced the Magnus as the best crystal Mech...more engine and chassis slots. Gotta have good equipment; but DODGE beats all!

M.- Interesting point of view. In your opinion, what are your merits and what your flaws as Pilot?

B.J.- My skills are...

- OUR CHIEF WEAPON IS FEAR! FEAR AND SURPRISE! OUR TWO CHIEF WEAPONS ARE FEAR, SURPRISE AND A RUTHLESS EFFICIENCY! AH; AMONGST OUR WEAPONRY ARE SUCH DIVERSE ELEMENTS AS FEAR, SURPRISE, A RUTHLESS EFFICIENCY AND AN ALMOST FANATICAL DEVOTION TO...<Smashing>

(Sudden silence and agitated breathing)
Sorry; I needed to knock myself out there for a bit. So, I try to be very organized. I keep a number of spreadsheets where I quantify everything I can about each Mech and line-up. Every weapons and it's combat efficiency. Plan out my upgrade path far ahead. I try to be as consistent, coherent and cohesive as possible. The exact opposite of my other self...(Nope! Shut up in there! You've had your fun, you raging numbskull!) Sorry about that. So while I cannot compete with the 'big boy' veterans in Div. 1's top two clans; I have found a niche in my Single Rainbow spec; where even pilots 100+ level above me struggle and even lose when assaulting it.

M.- Awesome, at least one of your two halves develops a mastery as tactician and analyst
The other half. Do you have something else you would like to mention while hunting down those bandits?

B.J.- There a tough bunch of buggers. I want to know where they are getting all their gear from! They are as well equipped as Drocha and the Unification forces. It's almost like they all have the same source. That requires more thought. Makes you wonder though! Oh, and as an aside; I would just like to point out for anyone who reads a transcript of this; stop choosing 1200 Total spec!! Any yaboo who's pupils respond to light can gear their best Mechs, weapons and equipment onto 1200 total weight and be competitive. It is not working guys! The defensive position of 1200 tons is the lowest across the top 4 divisions of any spec. JUST STOP! You're not helping yourself or your clan!

M.- Thank you Bernard, and good luck in your hunt.

B.J.- (...)

- THANKS MECHF#*@3R! (Shut up you!)

Battle of the Markets

[History, War]

The Battle of the Markets, that happened on 3087, is considered the fire baptism of the very first Mech of the mankind history(1) and the start of the Mech Warfare in the galaxy, revolutionizing all the military basis, strategies and tactics.

Although today it is believed that the battle of the markets faced an important pirate force against the first Mechs of our history, in fact it faced a conventional army of the solar empire, coming from Old Terra, supposing the beginning of the end of the Terrestrial colonial empire in the outer planets.

Historical Introduction

After Falco Lisi's discovery in 2287 how to unlock Gateways and travel through them, mankind had spread throughout the galaxy, creating a plethora of colonies. The new states were born and died at the same speed as night and day, but a few prevailed, stubbornly resisting and growing slowly but inexorably.

In most cases, Old Terra maintained an imperialist status on these new satellite states that grew on the outer planets, demanding them important taxes. One of the most influential colonies, on which Old Terra wielded its iron fist, was the Illyris sector, a prosperous and growing colony that had important mining prospects of Niobium, Ferronite(2), and other valuable resources.

The relationship between Old Terra and its colonies and satellite states was, at best tense, giving rise to numerous independence movements fueled by the colonists' discontent. In addition, the inflexible Old Terra government imposed very high taxes on the Illyris sector, so the Illyrian, began to sabotage shipments and reduce the amount of resources sent to Old Terra, which contributed to unbearable inflation In the solar system markets.

The Solaris Empire(3), which was eager for more resources, sent legates and inspectors to the Illyrian sector, but these were bribed, kidnapped and even killed, while further reducing production, contributing, along with other causes, to a break of the Terran markets and a major economical crisis in the empire.

Key to the Illyrian Sector

Old Terra adopted extreme measures, sending an expeditionary army to the mining prospects of the Radix Tribe, which, although they did not represent the greatest concentration of wealth of the sector, were the gateway-bottleneck to the Illiryan sector, and therefore, of Great strategic importance in order to reestablish order in the Illyrian mining colonies.

But the Radix Tribe had not been idle, and while the Illyrian houses maintained the mercantile boycott, Radix's engineers began a project to develop a new arsenal, knowing their territories would be the first to be struck by the imperial hammer.

Development of the First Mech

The Radix Tribe began designing a mobile unit that combined the versatility of autonomous mining units with armor and firepower of armored vehicles. They took as their starting point the MMU (mechanical mobile units) that used for the mining extraction, denominated Red Ant, turning them into the first Mech used in history for warlike purposes.

In the year 3087 they had several Red Ants squads available, and although they had not completed their testing, the sudden appearance of the imperial intervention forces advanced the baptism of fire of the first Mech force of history.

The Battle of the Markets

Because of the propagandist action of the First Republic Illyria, which falsified the data to exaggerate generously their victory, it is quite possible that the Terran expeditionary force would have an army body composed of at least three armored divisions and a logistic division, totaling more than half a thousand armored combat vehicles and possibly up to five thousand men.

It is known that a few squads were able to subdue and defeat the conventional army, taking advantage of the characteristics of the abrupt terrain chosen by the Radix Tribe, and in general, by the superior abilities of the first Mech in front of the armored vehicles.

It is very possible that the Radix Tribe suffered also important cassualties and the lose of an important number of Red Ants, but that information was censored and detailed information can not be found. The official reports of course relate an overwhelming victory.

Factors such as the surprise, morale and uncertainty of fighting an unknown force of xeno appearance units as a Mech force was never faced before, the inadequacy of the terrain in which the Red Ants ambushed to the tank divisions and in general, the superior combat capabilities demonstrated by the Red Ants, decanted the victory on the Illyrian side, defeating a much superior force, but conventional and inferior to the new Mech units.

Notes
  1. Not taking in consideration the millenarian Forerunner civilization.
  2. The unprocessed mineral from which the Ferrite is obtained.
  3. Solaris Empire is another the Terran Empire denomination, which receives its name from the Star of their Solar system.

Sten Hugo Hiller

[Legendary Pilot]

Star League Officer ~ Pilot License number: 627184

A veteran of several battles against the numerous threats of the galaxy and old known in all the modalities of the circuits in the King of the Mountain (KotM) modality, Sten Hugo Hiller has become in its own right a well-known pilot.

His experience in the KotM has given him a brilliant career in the editorial world, in which he became as Mecha War Games Correspondent for the Asterion Network News first, Mechanomicon later, spreading his chronicles of the circuits, through fresh and interesting analyzes that contribute to the diffusion of the competition, as well as to introduce the events among the youngest drivers.

As a mercenary pilot, he is part of the veteran Star League led by Commander Paul Knight (Paulzilla) and has successfully led, winning a silver medal as CO of a Star League unit during the first Squad Wars on 3320.

In Sten own words, he is a man of several parts. Foremost a doting husband and father. His career as a Mech warrior took up a lot of time, but he cherish the time he has with his family. But he is also bound by duty, and loyal to his friends, clan and crew. While he always try to accomplish tasks set for him to the best of his abilities, sometimes he fail, and sometimes his abilities aren't up to the tasks.

Mechanomicon - I am before a bizarre Mech Pilot. His grassy coverall had patches on the patches, the hands had both mining scars and inkblots. His glasses was at an angle and there was an unpleasant odour that reminded me of the Jungle moon. But since the front desk had let him in, I guessed he were in for some interview, so I put on a friendly smile, sat on my integrated micro and greeted him.

Now that I look better to you, Sir, I recognize the very own Sten Hugo Hiller, a renowned pilot from the Star League Clan.

As introduction, mind you talk about your origins? What system or planet are you coming from and how were your first steps as Mech Pilot?

Sten Hugo Hiller - Well, I come from the outward rim, the planet Noruga in the Scandia system. When pirate attack seemed imminent they scraped the barrel to find enough qualified pilots. I wasn't quite there, but as I was just outside the parameters they looked for I was included in the training battalion. My instructors were very unhappy with my lack of performance, and I was regularly sent on punish detail, mountain climbs in a Red ant carrying tons of rocks. During one of those Climbs the pirates attacked. I saw the formation mercing beneath me and dropped the bag.

The resulting Avalanche buried the pirate Squad, and i got a Warhorse for my heroic efforts.

M.- A great debut for a Mech pilot indeed. For how long did you serve in the Scandia defenses?

S.H.H.- Oh, just ill the pirate threat was over, then I was dismissed without prejudice. They wanted real Warriors not clumsy ne'er-be-goods like me.
But I had My warhorse and a couple others from my training squad without the Family Connections needed to stay in the forces joined me and we went in search for fame, glory and enough cash and spare parts to keep Our Mechs in working order.
Maybe at that time you was nothing but a rookie, but now we can affirm you are a real Mech warrior. In your opinion, what makes a "real Mech warrior"?

I wouldn't say I am quite there yet, the team of warriors under my command, the friends willing to brave fire to shield me from enemy fire, is what makes me still breathing. As for what a real Mech warrior is.. Here I am influenced by the Codex of my clan, the Star League. A real Warrior is one who unflinchingly does his duty, even when he faces certain defeat. never uses more force than necessary, and Shields civilians to the best of his ability. Remembers that the opponent is just that, an opponent, not an enemy. Always willing to lend a hand to those in need, and if necessary, let the payment wait a bit.

I know it might be out of date to be so Paladin's, but that is what we strive to be.

M.- Was that starting band that you formed the seeds of the Star League?

S.H.H.- Oh no, they were just my command. It took about a year for us to attract the attention of a Clan leader and be invited to a Clan. We ended up in the Smoking Aces. and spent the following six years there. But when the other Aces kind of semiretired in `81 I joined up with the Star League. But I was not one of the fonding members.
What memories do you keep from the Smocking Aces?

Ah, the thrill of finally being among Warriors who actually told me how to do things. I had done some serious mistakes at that time. Worst I think was when I impatiently speed leveled an Red ant from level nine to ten because it took so long time to do it regularly. I had no idea of anything, and they managed to correct the worst mistakes i did. For instance I stopped BUYING Force Ion Beams, and had it explained to me in graphic detail that kickback was not retaliatory strike when opponents managed to hit me. At that point I had spent and spent on Kickback weapons and Equipment. Also we managed two Silvers. that was a thrill. Prize Mechs! Wow.

M.- Do you remember what menaces besieged the galaxy by those years?

S.H.H.- No, I cant, I was to busy fighting my way through the other players and the missions. didn't really give the wider galaxy any thought at all. Wars happened and raids happened, against whom and for what didn't matter as long as there were good loot, well at least some loot involved.

M.- How was your debut in the Star League?

S.H.H.- I think Brently Gill still was leader at that time, and William Howell was there as well. It wasn't so much that they told me what to do, more like leading With example and giving disapproving looks when I kept repeating mistakes. They , and the rest of the crew, managed to get me into shape as a person, not a paid killing machine.

M.- When did you happen to step up in the ranks of  Star League and how did it happened?
When and how did you...

S.H.H.- Step up in ranks? I am a glorified Clerk!  My R&D hat is Reports and Dispatches. But since I brought quite a crew with me I have a Company Commander position. If you refer to my Temporary leadership during the Squad Wars in `20 it was because the others had to much to do, and Paulzilla  was on a vacation With the Bunnies, When he learned of my handling of the situation he came back and demoted me immediately.

(Paulzilla is the call sign for Paul Knight, the Star League leader)

M.- Since your inception in Star League, what have you learned to grow as an expert Mech pilot?

S.H.H.- Oh to many things to really mention. To take the most important: Equipment trumps weapons. Placement in the Line mostly trumps mechs, weapons should be suited to the mechs, And know your capabilities.

M.- In one word: Synergy

S.H.H.- Yes, you could Call it by that name,

How was the experience to run as CO of the Star League Squad during 3320?

S.H.H.- I was temporary Commander during the Squad War, but  Paulzilla is the CO. What I learned in my stint as temporary Commander is that the weight of command is extremely heavy. Paperwork multiplies, and the unit depends on you to make the right choices, or should I rather say, to make the best Choices among the options available. This requires a profound and deep understanding not only of Your own and the members capabilities, but also a deep familiarity with possible and probable opponents. Luckily for me Star League consists mostly of crack units, (me being the exception) and they were more than willing to help ease the burden of a New Commander who was way over his head.
*nods*

M.- You show to be a humble pilot, but thirty one golds in the KotM circuits hosted in Cogwerk Port speaks about certain success.

S.H.H.- Thirty two now (grins) but I have found my niche in the mid to low Level tonnage. My most successful formation, Snooze Company,  have been instrumental in most of these successes. I simply don't have the resources to be a top contender in the Heavy formats.
Yes, it is noticeable your specialization in light formations.
I have also managed to get some Equipment for my heaviest mechs, enough to make me a dark horse in the front line and Point Mech.

M.- Which one is your favourite Mech among the large variety produced by the Manufacturers?

S.H.H.- For favorite Mech, I am currently in love With the Antithesis. its blend of precision and Dodge, combined With speed and critical strikes makes it a favorite of mine, at least in the paper. The one I have named Ballerina is still not fully developed, but will hopefully make my formations somewhat better..

M.- All mechs have, or at least can, With the right gear, acquire several capabilities. While I feel all of them are important, what stands out as the most important is precision and Dodge. Speed also Plays a huge role, and getting a decent critical probability never hurts. But if I have to chose among these I would say precision is most important. The only way to win Battles is to hit the opponents..

S.H.H.- Most of my formations is formed more out of necessity than wish. While I have more BFMs than I currently field, I don't have the Equipment needed to make them surpass my heavies, so I still use mechs down to 65 ton in my main formations. Another restraining factor is weapon availability. I have not had surplus resources to buy the New and shiny weapons for more than two decades. what I have is the old weapons and what I can scrounge on the Climbs, in the Wars and in the raids.

M.- You have learn your lessons. I bet your strenght has to grow in future as much as your tech knowledge.

S.H.H.- Yes it will have to, otherwise I will fall to far behind those who have already mastered these lessons. Always New horizons to see, always New ways to do Things that can be learned from friends and opponents alike.

M.- You mentioned Scandia as your origin system. Do you have any heritage with the Terran northmen lineages?

S.H.H.- After the 2990 disasters (Oh the glacial melt, and the disruption of the golf stream made most parts of the British isles, and the Scandinavian peninsula more or less uninhabitable) many of the People from the Northern countries emigrated. In the Scandia system they consisted at one point for over 85% of the population. New Waves of immigration brought these percentages Down, but the Heritage is evident in buildings and customs.. Most Peoples however discarded their old Earth national ties and became Scandians first and last. I Guess I have a Heavy dose of Northern blood in my veins, and I can see the advantages of the system they imported, as well as some drawbacks.

M.- How do you envision yourself in the future?

S.H.H.- None of us are getting younger, but the years have not dealt to harshly With me yet. I hope to continue my career for at least another five decades. Now, I am hoping to stay where I am clan wise and having the same friends around me, but Star League have lost about half its original members already, and New ones have stepped up and  filled their shoes. What I hope is to learn more, become competent over a wider Field, and stay mentally flexible enough to react to changes and adapt With them.

M.- You will have to be glad to the several medical advances that keep most of us, pilots, alive beyond the standard life expectation.

S.H.H.- Yes, some speculate that the Extreme amounts of Hatoraide and Stim packs  reverses the normal oxidation in the cells, but as these substances are expensive and regulated, and many non pilots seem to develop allergic reactions when subjected to large doses over time, no conclusive proof have been provided.

M.- I am sure some scientists as Dr. Oki or Dr. Drake already arrived to their own conclusions.

For some time you turned to be a quick reporter for ANN news, covering the KotM circuits in your own section... What that extra job report to you?

S.H.H.- Well, it serves several purposes. Firstly it gives me a better feel of who to watch out for as likely and coming opponents, secondly, it gives me an added incentive to be in the KotMs, and thirdly, it provides a 2-3 digit amount of Niodes each week.

M.- Do you have anything else you might want to mention?

S.H.H.- While there are plenty (you included) who have a deeper and wider understanding of the intricacies of the machines, weapons and Equipment we use, I am always willing to try and answer those who are stymied by something. The best advices I can give to up and coming opponents is: Join a clan! they will help you develop and learn New tricks.  Never be afraid to ask for help or advice. Most of the  senior pilots are willing to help out those who need it.

M.- Well said. It has been a pleasure count with you, Sir.

S.H.H.- Pleasure entirely on my side. please Accept my apologies for the grease stains on Your Chair.

M.- Don't worry, I am pretty sure the LaSalle's waitress will care about that.
(Grabs a Carnidium La'Feat of 3201)

- ¡Salud! ("Cheers" in Spanish from Old Terra)

S.H.H.- ¡A su salud!

Dorrin 4

[Planetology, Astronomy]

DZK314-G, also known as Dorrin 4, is the fourth of six planets of the Mons system. The Mons system lies in the deep fringe near the 18th quadrant of Clarke Federation borders. It is a half-terraformed planet with abundant mineral deposits.

History

A few years after its discovery in 3124, a mining colony was installed to take advantage of the rich deposits located underground.

In 3201, the colonists suffered a virulent highly contagious infection, that affected the entire population causing all of them to fall ill. After the viral outbreak, the miners were evacuated and kept in quarantine, but after their recovery none of them were willing to return.
Rumours spread that the planet was a cursed place, and because of that no workers were willing to work there. The mining company that was in charge of the concession soon went bankrupt and no other company wanted to take over the operation.

The abandoned planet became a perfect hideout for pirates, bandits, smugglers and other fringe dwellers.

In 3321 the planet became the base of operations of the so-called Pirate King, who created a vast network of operations that disrupted the trade on the outer edges as well as in the galaxy itself, forcing the Clarke Federation and the Mercenary clans to intervene.

The battle of Dorrin 4 took place In 3322, resulting in the last forces of the pirate army being defeated and forcing the Pirate King to abandon his plans to create his own empire. Although his army was destroyed, the Pirate King himself escaped.

After the battle, the Clarke Federation declared the planet under their protection, establishing a garrison using the inventory of the goods seized from merchants. The Federation has resumed terraforming and begun to establish a small colony there.

Battle of Dorrin

[History, War]

Background

During the year 3322, a new threat took shape through the apparent union of all the pirates and bandits who were grouped under the banner of the so-called Pirate King, apparently a Blackwing Warlord.

This growing army of pirates increased the losses usually caused on the periphery trade in an alarming way, taking advantage of the absence of the mercenary clans that were in the parallel dimension, tracing the clan Xeon.
The forces of the Clarke Federation soon ended up overwhelmed, unable to attend all the calls for help of the victims of the growing wave of piracy, so that resorted to the mercenary clan troops that were not highlighted in the parallel dimension.

However, when an early approach to the pirates was achieved, which in normal circumstances would have allowed the recovery of the stolen goods, it was found that the pirates employed a combination of a shadowy gateway network forcing the travel through routes of narrow canyons and defiles to an encrypted gateway, a cunning strategy that nullified the involvement of medium or heavy Mechs, frequently used by the mercenary clans.

When the situation became alarming, the clans called the bulk of their contingents back, to counter the pirate army.

The combined action of the intelligence gathered by the Clarke Federation and the mercenary clans, promptly allowed to dispatch the pirate raiders and begin to trace its nucleus of operations and attempt the capture of the mysterious Pirate king.

The Battle

In the middle of the year, the mercenary Clans were successful in the interception and destruction of the majority of the pirate raids, and the track of the Niode matrix signature allowed them to route the pirate network towards the very Pirate king's Headquarters, in the planet DZK314-G, also known as Dorrin 4, a former mining colony turned to be the Pirate King's operation base, hid in the deep fringe.

When the first mercenary clans came to Dorrin 4, they found an abrupt planet, whose uneven surface facilitated the ambushes of the pirates, which turned out to be the only significant defense the mercenaries could find, since the pirates had not built defenses, perhaps confident that their hideout could not be located.

After a dirty combat, the first clans could impose their supremacy, opening the way to the bulk of the remaining clans, so that with the arrival of reinforcements, the routes to the main base of the pirates was open.

An immense maze of cargo containers received the mercenaries, eager to capture the problematic pirate leader. An authentic guerrilla warfare began in the artificial streets, in the midst of the immense pile accumulated by the pirates, where the mercenaries had to make their way from street to street until they reached the command center.

After hours of fatiguing combat, a Spitfire wearing the Blackwing banner, the Mech of the Pirate King, was spotted, but it was not possible to capture him, since the pirate leader had secured an escape route through a new encrypted Gateway.

As the ground was secured by the mercenary clans, the Clarke Federation forces arrived to take control of the planet and begin inventorizing the stolen goods to proceed to its return to the rightful owners.

[Pilot Ranks]

Mechanomicon assigns to each Mech pilot a rank according to their performance in the Mech Games and Tournaments, giving preminence to the individual circuits King of the Mountain.

This rank may not be representative of the true power and skills of a Mech pilot, since many other factors should be taken in account, thus this is representing a symbolic status, which will acquire prominence for those who achieved a higher rank, as an unequivocal sign of their excellence as pilots.
