Niobium has extraordinary superconductive and storing capabilities allowing its processed form, the Niodes, to break scientists and technological frontiers never achieved before.
Niode based technology simply out performs any other system such as crystal based technologies. Mechs built with Niode technology often have capabilities that are far superior to those of crystal Mechs.

Forbidden Technology
There are more unknown applications for Niodes. One of them recently rediscovered was Time Travel. An ancient Forerunner Relic, the Chroniode, was recovered by Droch'ah, the last Forerunner, and employed to unlock an travel through time, to both the past and the future. How the Chroniode works was not clear as no scientist apart from Droch´ah has had the chance to study it, until a new one was found by Harlan "Half-Baked" Harrison. But his enterprise, ChronoPower, Inc. keeps carefully its secrets.
By their origin, there are two different types of Niodes
- Forerunner Niodes
- New manufactured Niodes
The Forerunner ancient Niode matrices are special, as they hold the signature of lost locations, sometimes leading to un/explored worlds and sometimes even to old Forerunner deposits where their ancient superior technology awaits to be discovered and exploited.
Also, the Forerunner Niodes can keep exceptional properties not shared by the new processed Niodes.
The new Niodes (the majority) are manufactured from raw Niobium and while they are not as good as the Forerunner Niodes, they keep enough qualities as to become superior in their use to any other alternative.
New Niodes can also hold Gateway signatures, but those must be acquired from zero, as it is described in the Gateway entry.

The discovery of a new Chroniode by Harlan Harrison and the consequent creation of ChronoPower Inc, has opened a new line of research and creation of new technologies, based in the progressive disclosure of the Chroniode Powers.
